I'm looking forward to giving this show a proper chance and marathon watch once it's wrapped up.

I have found the bits I've seen so far to be trying a bit too hard, but Parks and Rec had a pretty so-so first season and found its footing and writing voice (amazingly so) in subsequent seasons.

Tinkletown.

Speaking of towns, we're going to catch Harmontown Friday night in Hollywood. It's usually Dan Harmon and Jeff Davis (Whose Line,...) talking and who knows what else. Maddy was dying to go last month, but it didn't work out. Wonder what it will be like, especially after the last show before hiatus...

Re-interpreting the Glee/Christmas episode into a horror story was awesome. I didn't think all the jokes hit, but I liked how the foundation gave a lot of natural directions to go (Annie's goo goo ga ga dum dum sex dance, Pierce's baby boomer narcissism).

...

Look, the Kings of Leon!

Cool! Report back. I could listen to Dan Harmon talk for hours.

Rewatched it again, and I let the joy of Glee into my heart. Loved it.

Taran Killam killed it as Mr. Rad.

I absolutely loathe musical episodes, always have, and always will, but I thought it was a pretty good episode. Certainly nowhere near last year's Christmas ep but Mr Rad was great, I liked how they pulled all the characters into the stunt (Annie's scene had me very hot and flustered, as did Britta in the tree tights), etc. But I contemplated fast-forwarding a number of times.

All that said, I will take a Community musical episode over pretty much any other episode of any other TV show. I'm very fucking depressed it's not coming back straight away.

That was my favorite episode in a long time.

Annie slayed me - "boop boop be doop doop .... sex."

Harmontown is a monthly 'show' done in the back theater of a comic book store in Hollywood. Holds about 100 people. It was hilarious. Jeff Bryan Davis (Whose Line...) is the comptroller and participates from the side while Dan just goes off. He went off on Chevy Chase among other things. Oh, and Gillian Jacobs sat next to us, and participated in the show, as did Dana DeArmond (another "actress" of sorts). We had front row seats. I'm trying to get Maddy to come post, as she is so in love with Community and Harmon's writing, she could probably summarize better than I ever could.

Apparently Gillian is nothing like her character in real life, according to Dan. Maddy got her picture taken with her, as well as a pic with Dan and Megan Ganz (writer) and one with Jeff. She had the TV Guide autographed by Dan and Megan too, the cover with Jeff Winger, Troy, and Abed. Oh, and we got spoilers for episodes filming now, if they ever get to air :sigh:

:)

Alright I'm just copying & pasting this from my blog for you guys to see!

So for those of you who don’t know, Harmontown is a little stand-up show that Dan Harmon puts on with his best pal, Jeff Davis. (How convenient, right? Two of my favorite people.) I especially wanted to go to this one because it was the day after the final Community episode before hiatus. Dan tweeted (after I already bought tickets) that Gillian Jacobs and this girl Dana would be guests. When I found out that Gillian, who obviously plays Britta on Community, was going to be there I flipped my SHIT. I was hoping that more Community stars would show up, but none did. Anyway, turns out Dana is a porn star……yeah awkberg. But Dan wanted her there because she had a small part in a Community parody porno. How fantastic.
My mom and I drove into Hollywood last night and got to the place around eight. We were the first people in line and we had to wait for about 45 minutes. During that time, we saw Dan walk around, Jeff arrived, Gillian strolled into the place with her boyfriend…..it was so crazy. They let us in around 8:50 and we got front row, right in front of Dan. The seats to our right were all reserved, and right before the show started Gillian, her boyfriend, Dana, and the guy she was with sat down in the four chairs!
So the show started and oh my gosh I laughed SO hard. Dan is absolutely fantastic when he talks. He’s so funny and he comes up with the most obscure metaphors and words to describe things. His general rhetoric is so beyond where a lot of average comedians are at, and it blows my mind how he comes up with some things on the spot. Among the things he talked about: how he and Jeff have different fan bases and Jeff gets mail from women who love him, his form of racism which isn’t actually racist, how big of a jerk Chevy Chase is (which really hit home since I had a semi-bad experience with him), his new bathtub that has really nice jets that make him…well….let’s just say it was awkward sitting next to my mom (sorry!!), etc. He brought up Dana first and it was a bit uncomfortable because she was talking about her line of work, but it could have been much worse. Then he talked a bit more and brought Gillian up. She is so petite and completely opposite of Britta! Gillian is very quiet and reserved, but you can tell she has her outgoing side. She always has to wear heels on the show because Joel is too tall. I loved hearing her talk, though. It turned into Dan being “on his first date” with Gillian and Jeff was on the side giving him tips on what to ask her and what not to talk about and it was really funny. They leaked a few little spoilers about what could be in upcoming episodes if they ever air, but I am not at liberty to talk about it!
After the show ended, the people who worked there were really trying to kick everyone out, but no one left, of course. I went up to Dan directly after it ended and I had written him a letter so I handed it to him and said something like, “It’s ironic that you were talking about fan mail because I wrote you a letter…” and he smiled and said thank you and asked for my name. Then I walked over and got a picture with Gillian. It turned out a bit derpy on her part, but I’m going to be mean and post it anyway.

Then I got my TV Guide out and walked over to Dan, who was talking to Megan Ganz, one of the other writers. I asked if both of them could sign it. They both said that they hadn’t gotten an issue yet, which kind of surprised me! I figured they’d be all up on that.

At that point, the people were really yelling at us to get out. So we walked out the backdoor and waited right outside because we knew they were all parked right out in the lot. Less than 15 seconds later, Jeff, Dan, and Megan walked out and I asked Dan and Megan if I could get a picture with them. Megan was like, “I’ll take it for you!” and I was like, “No…I want you in it!” and she was like, “Really??” and I was like, “Of course!” So she was happy about that. I love Dan’s expression. And he’s holding my letter.

Then I walked over to Jeff and asked for a picture with him, as well.

We talked to them for a little bit afterward, but that isn't too important to this story. However, I did receive this tweet from Dan earlier today:
"thank you for the sweet letter! And so impressively handwritten. We may need you as our historian after The Collapse."

:D

Awesome Maddy! :D Gillian looks hideous, and Dan looks homeless, but sounds like you had an awesome night!

Mind sharing yours and Dan's stories about Chevy being a jerk? I've never heard about it before and would like to know...

Gillian looked perfectly beautiful, but that was just one REALLY bad blink

As for my story, I was at the Decade of Difference Clinton Celebration concert at the Hollywood Bowl in October and we entered through the back, and I saw Chevy and his wife walking around. I made my way up to him to try and introduce myself, and as I'm within inches of him, reaching out my hand to say hello, he walks directly past me without acknowledging my presence. And there's no way he could have not noticed me- we were that close.

As for Dan's stories, he basically just talked about how Chevy is a total ass on set and how he thinks he is much better than everyone else and he is "legendary" and he will call Dan quite often and leave him really strange voicemails and just all of this stuff.....I don't quite remember specifics. It's always been a pretty well-known fact that Chevy is a huge jerk in general.

Yeah it sucked, but I half-expected it anyway so it wasn't too big of a deal, really. I'm almost glad that he did because having a shitty celebrity story is fun. Especially when it's Chevy Chase.

I don't know how they work with him. Based on Dan's stories, it seems brutal. But he probably boosted their ratings for a good while so I can't blame them for not firing him! He'd burn down the studio if they did, anyway.

The roast ideal generally being that your peers/friends come to rag on you for an hour. Comedy Central's roasts got/get a little awkward when the roasted person (most notably Chevy Chase) has no show biz friends, and the people who do show up are a lineup of random desperate comedians looking to make a name for themselves. I haven't seen the Chevy Chase one in a while, but the general takeaway was that it signified Chase had totally isolated himself from the people he'd worked with in his career.

Thanks for not letting Ganz take the photo 94, I totally love her. She should be well known!

exactly. whereas most roasts are like "lol you old", his was just downright mean. not saying he didn't deserve it, but it was still sad to watch. it reminded me of some schoolyard bully, where years later all the kids he bullied got to finally get their own back and it just proved they weren't over whatever happened years before - except these guys never even knew chevy and this is making this analogy just fall apart so i should end this post now
