Alisaura said:Yeah, he's not really what I'd consider to be your style, but that one piece I thought you might enjoy, if only for the sheer mind-boggling mad guitar skillz. That was just him solo, by the way.
He did that one when I saw him live a while back... I don't think I've ever seen one guy with a guitar fill a room with music like that.
Apparently he used to do that busking...!Axver said:Oh, that's just him? Yeah, that's definitely some pretty good guitar playing. I enjoyed it. Shame it's atypical of his style though!

And what you said on Sunday about Edge getting sound out with just his left hand on the neck reminded me of this, cos that's what Mr Butler was doing too.
Sounds cool... although I can't remember what song it was.Axver said:Though actually, I wonder if it can be seen on a better JT era gig, because the 9 October 1987 show really isn't all that.

I should be able to do lunch... 2pm again?
Sounds good.Axver said:Cool. Yeah, I should be able to get there by 2pm. I'll text you if I'm running a tad early/late - what tram I catch really depends on when my lecture ends. Just meet outside your work?
Alisaura said:That set looks kinda unremarkable, for a JT set... but Exit always helps
I didn't know Bono's ability to play/wear guitar could affect the set so much?
Alisaura said:I think I just saw an ad for a variety of Big M called "Edge".

I was expecting you to say thatAxver said:And I think you really need to play UF. It really is the only U2 album I've listened to with any regularity over the last year or so. I've gotten back into some other stuff recently, though.

That plus me staying up to 3 AM last night = this. Don't fuck with me today is all I'll say.
In Bonospeak, the numbers go 1, 2, 3, 14, 15, 27.....Axver said:I love this comment on the 23 November 2001, Phoenix gig:
Comments: In God's Country is performed for the first time since 9 October 1989. Bono claims that it is the first time it has been performed in 15 years, despite the fact that The Joshua Tree was only 14 years old in 2001!

Beats our conversation at home the last two nights... some fucked up shit in Iraq, and some fucked up shit with child abuse.Axver said:Yes, still nerding around with setlists ... beats reading depressing science about extinction events like I was doing last night!

The thing is, at that time, I really associated UF with the death of my friend (from cancer), and went as far as writing a long rambling (and thoroughly ignored!) post in Musical Journey about how UF is all about death.
And a couple of days ago my mother told me that a mole she got removed turned out to be melanoma, so she's going to a specialist to get more cut out. There's no particular reason to panic, but that combined with a bunch of other things has me in something of a delicate state at the moment. I mean, I cried half the way to work today, listening to Pop, of all things.
So maybe I'll leave UF alone for a bit longer, or else listen to it when I'm not driving down a freeway.
