Let's face it; 2006 was a pretty weak year in music.

Hmm,

New U2 (plus 3 DVDs!)
New Replacements (!?!?!?!?!)
New Killers
New Buckcherry
New Snow Patrol
Debut of Angels & Airwaves
An Excellent Coldplay/Michael Stipe tune
New Soul Asylum

I think it was pretty fucking excellent year personally. Best by far since probably 1994.

Re: Re: Albums of 2007

Things I'm looking forward to in 07:

More new U2??
The new Smashing Pumpkins album
The new Bob Mould Album

U2:18?

you cannot be serious :lmao:

Yeah, I am. So what? I like any new U2 material, and I like Window In The skies. I have a new U2 song, and a concert I'd never seen or heard before.

The vast majority of the material on U218$ can hardly be considered new.

2006:

Pearl Jam (good)
Red Hot Chili Peppers (terrible)
Snow Patrol (lame)
David Gilmour (interesting, but not that special)
Keane (sucks)
Muse (sucks)
Thom Yorke (disappointing)
The Killers (really disappointing)

And you didn't mention Beck, Flaming Lips, or Sonic Youth. Get some taste. :tsk:

2007:

U2
Radiohead
Blur
Shins
Maroon 5 (my guilty pleasure:drool: )
Franz Ferdinand
Arcade Fire
Aerosmith (my other guilty pleasure)
White Stripes
Oasis

OWNED.

You tell someone to get some taste then list Maroon 5 as a guilty pleasure?!?!?!!?!? That's like telling someone to get some taste for enjoying their prune ice cream as you gnaw on a frozen dog turd.

(edited because that sentence was a mess)

Seriously?

WHY HASN'T SOMEONE MENTIONED THAT ON THESE BOARDS BEFORE!

so are you saying that u218 is worth mentioning as a great album of 2006 because it contains one new song that you like?

when has that ever stopped?

Don't Believe the Truth was a very solid album, and if they continue along that route, their next album will be good too.

They're the best arrogant assholes around.

Arcade Fire
Aereogramme
Porcupine Tree
The Gunshy
U2
R.E.M.
Radiohead
The Twilight Singers
The Church
The Handsome Family
and a bunch of others no doubt...

oh, and The Stooges are releasing their first album in 33 years next year.

No joke.

That new Bloc Party song underwhelmed me. I'm still interested to see where the album will wind up, quality-wise; I hope it's listenable, though, and more consistent/less oft-mediocre than Silent Alarm. Sorry for going O-T, but I couldn't resist. 2007 should be dece, but I don't yet have much of a reason to expect more from it than I got from 2006.

crap, I haven't listened to the new Bloc Party, I know is leaked, but well, my expectation are high

and of course, new Explosions in the Sky

For me, 2007 is already shaping up nicely with new ones from:

Nine Inch Nails
PJ Harvey
Neil Finn
B.R.M.C.
Interpol
The Cure
Radiohead

And possibly new ones from:

R.E.M.
U2
Echo & The Bunnymen

Because your not making any sense

Like hell I'm not. A single is a release just like an album is. And a single song off an album is still released as well. Just because I"m thinking in broader terms doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. Dink.

I think I'm in the wrong thread then. I must be posting in "Single Releases of 2007."

The Shins, Bloc Party, The Arcade Fire... 3 albums that will rock in 2007

with a little of luck, GY!BE will back, at least to release 'Albanian' and 'Gamelan', two amazing tracks never recorded

I'm hoping for the same.

I believe I saw them on a list of artists that were working on new material, yes.

 An EP is meant to be coming out in mid to late 2007 with them going back into the studio to record a full album in 2008.
