And NLOTH I gets -250 then?

No, NLOTH gets 5 stars. It's my favourite from the album  How U2 managed to make two versions of a song where I feel 100% opposite is beyond me. I mean, I dig both the Guilty and Garage mixes of Holy Joe, so what's up with this shit?

nloth-moment of surrender, unknown caller, no line on the horizon, fez being born, magnificent

bomb-city of blinding lights

all that you can't-walk on

pop-do you feel loved, mofo, dischoteque, wake up dead man, please

zooropa-zooropa

achtung baby- zoo station, the fly, one, until the end of the world, acrobat, love is blindness

rattle and hum-bullet the blue sky, hawkmoon 269, pride, all I want is you

the joshua tree-where the streets have no name, bullet the blue sky, with or without you, exit

the unforgettable fire-a sort of homecoming, wire, bad

war-the refugee, sunday bloody sunday, seconds

october-I threw a brick through a window

boy-electric co, out of control

i did give alot of songs 4 stars. sometimes songs are hits for a reason. like i;m really not gonna give WOWY 5 stars. just to be cool or something. and no i don't think anything on NLOTH is a 5 star classic. alot of 4's, but no 5's. and october is no 5's. gloria was close. im not giving is that all? 5 stars just to get respect on this board. casual fans don't know acrobat or the wanderer off the top of thier head. and i gave that 5 stars.

First of all, can I say that you people (mainly Axver) trolling the guy's thread because you think his tastes are too mainstream is absolutely pathetic! There is nothing wrong with liking hit songs. You are officially not a smarter person because you think an unreleased demo of Adam farting is better than 'With Or Without You' (I realize that you are smarter in your own mind, but that's a place I wouldn't want to visit).

And so what if the guy did just buy U2:18? So, he can't express his opinion? By that standard, those of us who've followed the band since the 80s should ban anyone who first listened to them after Pop.

To get to the poor guy's topic:

It's a little hard to say what's a "5-star classic" unless we specified whether we're looking for (a) generally-accepted classics (in the public arena) or (b) our own idiosyncratic choices -- the two lists would obviously be different for most people. But anyway, I'll give it a go (bear in mind my standards for a "classic" are very high, so there can't be many) as far as generally accepted "classics" in the public arena go:

1. Sunday Bloody Sunday
2. Pride
3. Bad
4. Where the Streets Have No Name
5. With Or Without You
6. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
7. One
8. Beautiful Day

That's it. For my own personal tastes, I would add to those 8, the following:

-- A Sort Of Homecoming
-- Running To Stand Still
-- All I Want Is You
-- Until The End of the World
-- The Fly
-- Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
-- Please
-- Vertigo
-- City of Blinding Lights

I feel like I should add 'I Will Follow', 'Gloria', and 'New Year's Day', but... I dunno; the older I get, the less I enjoy the really early stuff. It's all good, but it's just so adolescent.

Hmm... I've just come up with a list of tunes that would make a pretty good 17-track Best of U2.... but then I'm duty-bound to add a few earlier ones.

I know I've made a good post if you hate it.

Due to some of the replies in this thread, I feel the need to say something so that this thread doesn't totally nosedive.

Not everyone is going to have the same opinion on songs. Feel free to discuss different opinions...but could we leave the snobby elitism at the door, please?

well if the rating program would let me put 4.5 stars, alot of songs would have gotten that.and then thier's not such a stark difference. the idea that i just copy from u218 is pretty well not thought out. alot of the songs on thier are not on u218. my version didn't have the fly on it? did yours? must have missed the wanderer on my u218. This idea that u2 is like radiohead is absurd. Let me ask this board something. who do you think this band is? they are not a cult driven, dead/phish/radiohead/cure type "album cuts are better and more meaningful then the hits and only morons listen to the hits" kinda band. sure they have experimented . but big difference between what u2 does and what radiohead does. u2 has never made music that had no chance of selling records.. ever. get it? they are a alternative pop rock band. they are not progressive. album cuts should get more play at concerts. but u2 isn;t gonna give anyone a show full of album cuts and rare b-sides and no hits.. like what phish and the dead do. the passengers is the closet thing to making music that can;t sell. i laugh when someone says u2 played it safe on this or that album. you have no idea what "safe" means in that context. you really don't. safe compared to what? where is this epic, 20 min songs, progressive, concept, pink floyd-ish album that u2 did (that was officially called u2) that they are not doing anymore, cause they went "safe"? can someone send me a copy of it?
