Well U2 are officially no.1 in the UK - their 10th number one here (which puts them joint third in the all-time list, behind Elvis and The Beatles). Amazingly, Bomb is the only U2 album to last beyond the first week at the top spot, so it'll be interesting to see how it does next week.

I disagree about Elevation, although the album version doesn't do it for me so much. I couldn't agree more about Pop, almost every reviewer makes some casual remark about it being a flop, misguided experiment etc. Pop has some seriously strong songs, songs which U2 didn't match on ATYCLB or...

Don't see what would be wrong with putting out a more ambient album, if the material is already there? If they don't release this stuff, you'll be waiting a good few years before you hear anything new from U2. They might even throw a couple of rock tunes into it for good measure....ambient...

Yeah, no.12 is terrible, especially when you look at what's above it (Kings of Leon excluded). The promotion hasn't been great though, and I wonder whether this was intentional or not - U2 have been around too long to mess this up, surely?

I really enjoyed The Brits performance, but I hope they re-work the video in the background. It seems like a confusion of different ideas, which makes it look messy and amateurish to me.

Mostly agree, although I don't think Beautiful Day is given the credit it's due. If you can recommend a mid-western pop-punk band churning out GOYB-standard singles I'd like to hear them! GOYB is the sound of U2 having fun again, and I don't see anything wrong in that :shrug:

I agree, U2 have been mainstreem since the late '80's. But being mainstreem isn't necessarily a bad thing. I hope The Killers and not Coldplay will ultimately prove to be the band of which you speak!
