Radio Radio - Moment of Surrender

^ I've got to disagree. People would've said, "boring", "self-indulgent", "irrelevant", "lacking impact" etc etc. The song would've been over-analysed, and probably over-criticised. (I love Moment of Surrender though, and I really hope it's released as a single...maybe a minute-and-a-half or so...

An Assessment Of NLOTH In The Context Of U2's Career and U2's State of Relevance

 I know what you mean about JT, but we do also know how hard they worked those songs back then. Perhaps in time NLOTH will begin to have that effortless feel as well? I can't help but feel the middle songs are the sound of fear: fear that the album won't be well received, fear that it...

Another album soon?? Songs of Ascent

It wasn't a serious point, but yeah in Scotland we tend to get on the sauce as early as possible. And we call boozing an essential lifestyle choice, not a vice :sexywink:

Another album soon?? Songs of Ascent

Surely there's too much fun to be had in Las Vegas, to be over-analysing a song/non-song to this extent!?! An entertaining argument over essentially nothing though!

An Assessment Of NLOTH In The Context Of U2's Career and U2's State of Relevance

No-one has commented on that in the few months I've been a member, which for me right now marks you out as having the best musical palette of anyone here  Views on NLOTH?

An Assessment Of NLOTH In The Context Of U2's Career and U2's State of Relevance

Basically, when in your life you "find" U2, dictates where the initial peaks and troughs lie. Then when you become saturated by U2, you - should - realise that War, The Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby are the albums that really matter, and that every other album has hugely significant moments. In...

NLOTH set for Number 1 here in the UK

Well U2 are officially no.1 in the UK - their 10th number one here (which puts them joint third in the all-time list, behind Elvis and The Beatles). Amazingly, Bomb is the only U2 album to last beyond the first week at the top spot, so it'll be interesting to see how it does next week.

What will the 4th single be ?

Having heard the album for the first time in full only yesterday, it's maybe a little early for me to say. But at the moment I do think Moment of Surrender should be a single. It's a great song, and great songs should be released for the masses. Only occasionally do U2 produce songs which...

    Eno Hated Boots

BTW, Boots was used as the intro to the Ireland v's England Six Nations rugby match today. It was a mixture of video of U2's rooftop Boots performance, combined with footage of rugby players knocking lumps out of each other! Then Bono and Edge appeared holding a black Guinness rugby ball, and...

    Eno Hated Boots

I disagree about Elevation, although the album version doesn't do it for me so much. I couldn't agree more about Pop, almost every reviewer makes some casual remark about it being a flop, misguided experiment etc. Pop has some seriously strong songs, songs which U2 didn't match on ATYCLB or...

    no 2 U2 albums in 2009

Don't see what would be wrong with putting out a more ambient album, if the material is already there? If they don't release this stuff, you'll be waiting a good few years before you hear anything new from U2. They might even throw a couple of rock tunes into it for good measure....ambient...

    u2 On Radio 1's Live Lounge 27th Feb - U2 at BBC!

Yep, I'm waiting to listen to the album 'til when I buy it in the shops next Monday, so this was the first album track I've heard. I liked it a lot!

Get On Your Boots Appreciation Thread

Yeah, I'm not overly worried, just a little disappointed that a song I far prefer to Vertigo finds itself outside the top 10, when Vertigo made it to the top spot. There's no accounting for taste mind, I mean the last single of U2's not to make the top 10 was apparently IFWSHA, which is one of...

Get On Your Boots Appreciation Thread

^The Prodigy are even in the top 5 with their comeback single. The single doing well doesn't matter that much to me, but I do like the single and thought it would have a wider appeal...not even making the top 10!?! When was the last time the first single from a new U2 album failed to chart in...

Get On Your Boots Appreciation Thread

Yeah, no.12 is terrible, especially when you look at what's above it (Kings of Leon excluded). The promotion hasn't been great though, and I wonder whether this was intentional or not - U2 have been around too long to mess this up, surely?

Did U2 want it to leak? - Album to stream on My Space - ARTICLES REGARDING THE LEAK

The cynical part of my brain says they did it deliberately - maybe they felt Boots hasn't promoted the album well enough, and that a small leak would get everyone talking and give NLOTH a bit of a stimulus. My other brain cell tells me someone just fucked up, or was very silly. I didn't want...

[CONFIRMED] U2 to perform Get On Your Boots at the Brit Awards!!

I really enjoyed The Brits performance, but I hope they re-work the video in the background. It seems like a confusion of different ideas, which makes it look messy and amateurish to me.

Short Dan Lanois interview at Rolling Stone

I find the whole "GOYB isn't doing well" thing funny. I have plenty of friends who aren't even aware that U2 have a new single on the radio yet! The video has only been released today (and only on the 'net so far), the single hasn't been released yet, and there's been no major marketing push...

Fair enough, but tell me, what are tracks 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10,and 11 like? :sexywink:

You've heard GET ON YOUR BOOTS? - Post all thoughts, reviews, discussion HERE Part 4

Mostly agree, although I don't think Beautiful Day is given the credit it's due. If you can recommend a mid-western pop-punk band churning out GOYB-standard singles I'd like to hear them! GOYB is the sound of U2 having fun again, and I don't see anything wrong in that

You've heard GET ON YOUR BOOTS? - Post all thoughts, reviews, discussion HERE Part 4

I agree, U2 have been mainstreem since the late '80's. But being mainstreem isn't necessarily a bad thing. I hope The Killers and not Coldplay will ultimately prove to be the band of which you speak!
