SOE - Part 8 - iHeart Beach CLips

Man, I couldn't disagree with that more. U2 is at their best when they're experimenting outside of their comfort zone . Whether that was country in the late 80s, dance and electronica in the early 90s or middle eastern sounds in the 2000s.

SOE - Part 8 - iHeart Beach CLips

It's a live remix. But I truly hope the song they deliver to radio is as close to this as possible. U2 wants to remain relevant they need to take more chances. Hoping that the album or single version is not a poppy, watered down version of this. Love love love the clubby, chopped vocal half way...

SOE - Part 8 - iHeart Beach CLips

On 2nd view, the lyrics are clearly visible on the screen. He says "the best thing that ever happened to boy." You can use it like that. It's hooky. "Boy" could be seen as a grammatical equivalent to "man." Or is it a reference to their first album? Oooh!!!

SOE - Part 8 - iHeart Beach CLips

Except I think he leaves out the article for boy. He says "The best thing that ever happened to boy." Which is a pretty nice hook.

LP14: Songs of Experience - To Valencia and Beyond

Nice pop song. The fuck the beach goer stop recording though?

2016 US Presidential Election Thread IX

That's actually my biggest fear. He will reign himself in (or be reigned in) in an attempt to appeal to a larger audience. I'm not worried about him losing his populist crowd. Those people are in the boat and will know what he's up to for the most part. What I do worry about is him adding one...

If it be your will is a fantastic song.

Pre-orders for 2016 Fender Edge Stratocaster

Can't believe no one's talking about that spectacular new song at 4:45. Wow. That is a new song, right?

Songs of Experience - Part 2

This is what I'm talking about. Watch that 2nd clip of U2 (Get on the Guitar). AT 1:22 they start to play this gorgeous, bluesy thing with Bono doing a falsetto. I'm in LOVE. You even hear Adam talk about the things that interest him are "simple, back to nature and playful." I'm in LOVE and this...

Songs of Experience - Part 2

"You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it." Edge, on SOE. Best thing I've heard in years. This is what has always pissed me off about U2. The greatest band in the world, but could be so, so much better if they would stop overworking and overthinking their...

Songs of Experience - Part 2

They're two different songs, really. Glastonbury was not a "gem," or a can't-miss single, but it had an edge. It sounded nothing like U2. There was a time when that was the dividing criterion for which songs were kept and which were discarded. Much like The Fly 25 years before, Glastonbury...

Songs of Experience - Part 2

U2 has destroyed many, many songs by overthinking them. I can think of SO MANY examples of fantastic songs at the demo stage that ultimately disappointed when released on record: Hands that Built America, Winter, Breathe, Original of the Species...the Glastonbury turned Volcano thing. There...

Biggest Improvement from the Studio to the Stage

    1. Streets - On record, a good song, but an opaque and challenging album track. Live, a tour de force. THE song that every U2 tour pivots around. 2. Sunday Bloody Sunday - On record, a somewhat wimpy, choppy, nearly acoustic sounding track with an electric violin of all things. Live, an...

    New fan saw the light

This is my 33rd year as a U2 fan, 16th show, and I haven't tired of the "preaching." I guess because I don't consider it preaching. It's just Bono raising awareness and doling out praise where its due. But I like the rest of your story. I've always fantasized that my U2-hating friends would...

    Songs where Larry shines

Good call on Walk to the Water. His drumming on that song sounds like bubbles under water. Brilliant.

    Question for tour vets

Lame question from a parent who has babysitters: when does U2 generally take the stage? And when does the show generally end? Yes, I know this has probably been asked and answered several times. BUt I don't have time to go searching. Thanks in advance!

    Bono's Hair

I like it, but he should've gone all the way. It's too yellow. It should be platinum. I had my hair bleached platinum blonde for about 15 years. I stopped doing it about 5 years ago, not because I was 45, but because I just got tired of doing it. For those who argue they should just age...

Only "true" fans are entitled to rail!

To me, that has always been the beauty of being inside the heart, circle, rail whatever it happens to be. Once you're in, you're close enough to see the sweat on their faces. That's close enough for me. I sit on the floor, relax and wait for the show. Sometimes I get up and go get a beer...

Every Breaking Wave - Song Discussion

Every Breaking Wave IS happening. As a creative director, I know the worst feedback you can give is "can you make it a combination of the two"? But that's how I feel about the two EBWs. Take that over-the-cloud, blood-on-the-track passionate vocal that comes out of the bridge in the new...

    Best of Non-Album Tracks

It's a crime that there is even ONE list without Your Blue Room. That and the Lady with the Spinning Head are two of my favorite U2 songs of all time.

    Global Warming Revisited

Global warming debate boiled down: 9 out of 10 auto mechanics tell you your car needs new brakes, but you do nothing because your plumber says your mechanics are full of shit.
