Album should come out in advance of the tour so that the crowd knows the tunes already.

Perhaps fall 2016 album and tour early 2017?:hmm:

in the interest of tempering expectations...

there's still a good chance the album wont be out this fall. Edge did recently say that they may tour without an album.

any talk about an album release has been driven primarily by nutso fans, like us

i don't put much stock in that quote. How can you have a massive tour called Innocence and Experience with 1 album called SoI...wouldn't you need an SoE?

Don't put it past U2 to do such a thing.

This was a band that had a lead single ready to go, released on Super Bowl Sunday, started the promo work.....and then disappeared for six months.

I'm just saying, temper expectations. Doesn't mean we won't get what we expect.. Just maybe not in the timeframe we expect.

The only word we should look to is that of the band, and the most recent quotes we have are from Edge, and they're completely non-committal, with the exception of this idea that they may resume touring before releasing SOE

Who really knows at this point?

Good news is that it looks pretty much certain that we'll get another tour and album out of them at some point..

Because, ya know, they are old after all and are very wealthy, and could stop the U2 train from rolling whenever:sad:

Truthfully, there's someone I trust who told me to temper my expectations about new music. Nothing more, just that.. :|

I don't believe it until it's on iTunes. Simple as that. Too much talk from the band in the past that never comes true.....LIES LIES LIES

It's obvious they have been working on music. But history tells us they take forever to get songs completed, and throw in their fear of not being relevant, it compounds the issue.

They need THE SONG.

Even if they start the tour without the official album release we would likely hear 3-4 new songs every night. The ones they are solid on. Make Setlist Parties Great Again.

It's possible that they could put tickets on sale in July, release the album in September, and start the tour in September/October. They don't need to rehearse a whole lot, considering they already have the majority of the show already down.
I think this tour will mostly follow the same format as last year, with some SOE tunes replacing some SOI ones. Otherwise, it'll be about the same.

The album doesn't need to have been out for 3 months before the shows start. They could release it the same day the tour starts. There is no format anymore, anything can happen.

Maybe the new material isn't very good.

Or maybe Registered Dude needs to temper his expectations because it's going to sound just like any other post-2000 U2 album?

We must remember that this band is full of twists an turns. The person I get my info from who has been 100% accurate wasn't getting good vibes in 2014 until a couple days before the Apple event. So the fact is that no one knows except for the band and those very close to them.

 Maybe this is it...

but I think it's more about timing..

look, to be clear, I'm not trying to be secretive or anything - this guy could be out to lunch.. but he's a friend who's in a position to hear about some of this stuff. Doesnt claim to be 100% in the know, but also doesn't think we're getting music anytime soon (ie this fall).

I hope to hell he's wrong

Well that's reassuring.

They've planned & canned before (e.g. photo shoots and an album listening party in NYC in 2013 before delaying by a year, or how about the invisible/super bowl thing).

But I could imagine the SoI/Apple thing came together pretty fast. They put volcano on at the last minute, and I could imagine them having delayed beyond September 2014 if there wasn't the deadline of the Apple event.

So yeah, hopefully they just end up getting this thing out before the tour. I can easily see them not getting SoE out at all if they prioritise the tour. It could end up like the 360 tour/2011 album project all over again.

Maybe everything we've heard reported lately is true... what's interesting is all this business about a deadline last weekend. maybe they didn't make their deadline?
