What middle? I have this in my car/on a playlist as NLOTH:

1. Soon
2. Breathe
3. No Line on the Horizon
4. Unknown Caller
5. Moment of Surrender
6. Magnificent
7. Fez-Being Born
8. White as Snow
9. Winter (Brothers)
10. Every Breaking Wave (Bono/Edge live obviously)
11. Cedars of Lebanon

I'm trying to see how long I can make it on a Friday night, after sleeping late (until 6) and ingesting a mega-B vitamin this morning. The Black Lips are playing here on a Friday night in March. I'm ready to go to bed now, and it's only 10:30. I may have to take two mega B vitamins to make it past 10:30.

Oh, plus, I had half a cup of coffee this morning.

Saw Chvrches again at Laneway Fest on Monday. Pretty sure Lauren melted the hearts of everyone in attendance. I don't mean to objectify her or anything, but I think I love her.

COBS don't be a fool and miss them today. Also Haim rocked and Savages were mesmerising.

Fuck you, that's completely acceptable. You don't have to preface that statement with anything. You're not a fucking bad dude for saying you love some celebrity you've never met. We all do that.

No? My grand return faux pas.

Fell asleep watching some lame movie before I saw this. Mr Ford just started dominating the conversation for a bit and then the Americans here got all pissy - I mean, their leader isn't nearly as scandalous interesting, so I guess they felt left out..

Oh..and emoticons? Be careful...Laz gets a rash if you overuse 'em...

You were so close but then I got to track 7 and lost interest...:tsk:

lol

Lauren made a public stance on misogyny recently, following some pretty horrible FB / Tweets regarding her. It's probably just the apologetic Englishman inside me. But fuck, she's just the most adorable front woman I've ever seen. My wife hates her.

ALSO, we'll be in Chicago for the back end of July. Where's good to go at night?

Yeah those comments made towards her were pretty fucking ugly. I guess she's not really looking to be the next gutter queen sex symbol. Good for her. Can't wait to see them live, they're next (or so) on my list.

I did not see Chvrches, their sound cut out at one point for five minutes and they played in the fucking car park stage which is an absolute pain in the arse to get to. So I left and went to Mount Kimbie. There was no way I was seeing Haim because they clashed with Kurt Vile.

Honestly I think Autre Ne Veut were my highlight. Played at 1:15 to a bunch of fucking arseholes who gave them nothing. Opened with Play By Play and I was quite literally the only one dancing. They sound great live and Ashin is a great performer. I love his voice and although I found Anxiety a real drag to get through their live set was wicked. Closed with Counting, which was awesome.

Youth Lagoon played Mute and Dropla so I was happy, Unknown Mortal Orchestra were pretty good from what I saw of them. Was a little bit disappointed by Kurt Vile I have to say, but that was probably more to do with the fact I was in a shitty mood anything. Their sound was much fuller than on record too, so I think a little of the subtlety was lost.

King Krule had a good sound. Dude is the most savage redhead I've ever seen and his voice is.. unique. Jamie XX and Four Tet were both good. Seeing Danny Brown, Earl and Run the Jewels this week. Can't wait.

Also: I really like Wild Honey. And I dearly love ATYCLB. No Line, Moment of Surrender, Fez and Cedars are really the only songs from the latest album that held up for me.

Also also: nice to see other faces in here, hello VP  I had the opportunity to see The Orb at Donko Fest last weekend, but got too drunk. Dave Gilmour did an album with them.

I hate Wild Honey but also love ATYCLB much more than the majority of this forum.

Wild Honey would make a great b-side.

It's just one slight song too many on that album, and we already have a "drunk in love" song with In A Little While, which has a more interesting beat and impassioned vocal.

I don't dislike anything on ATYCLB as much as Crazy Tonight or Stand Up Comedy, but its peaks are too few and not very high.

Agreed .... although I have a hard time saying I dislike the album. Some days I feel like it's a very good album overall, but I never quite love it.

It's a weird album in my rankings. I never know where to put it.

If you substitute The Ground Beneath Her Feet for Grace, ATYCLB becomes a hell of a lot better. New York brings a nice change of pace in being harder-edged than what preceded it, but that grit is immediately lost with Grace. GBHF, on the other hand, would have sustained New York's change of mood through the end of the album.

The Ground Beneath Her Feet still remains by far and away my favourite thing they did since Pop. It was probably the last time I've been truly blown away by Edge's guitar.

If you substitute a lot of MDH for the back half of ATYCLB you have a much better collection of songs, not a great ALBUM mind you because it wouldn't gel much thematically/sonically (as it doesn't now) but it'd be a stronger representation of their abilities at the time.

Never Let Me Go (even though we've never heard U2 record it, though the version we do have features probably my favorite jazz drummer)

Though I will say I'm one of the few people that really likes Peace on Earth, and I adore When You Look at the World. So strike Wild Honey, Grace and New York in my mind.

Gah, brain fried, I typed "I" first, and then remembered how most of the lyrics say "You" and changed it, but then the point is not seeing what the You sees, so I makes more sense for the title.

I don't think ATYCLB suffers from a lack of cohesion per se, though I do prefer the original track order. The songs explore different pop avenues but at least they mostly sound from the same sessions, producers, etc.

M$H really has nothing in common with that material and would be so much more out of place than anything else.

In that case, why not throw in material from Rare & Unreleased while you're at it too? Because some of that fits in a lot better with ATYCLB.

I'm not disagreeing, they're just better songs, same goes with the Rare and Unreleased stuff, Levitate is kind of cool but seemingly unfinished and the rest is pretty light fare.

In retrospect, booking the tour before they "finished" Pop was the best thing that could have happened to that record. It could have been an overcooked mess as those Best of mixes showed.
