New album talk: I heard that it was big but this... is really big

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

What tempo ? We still know as much as before about the release date and/or the first single. And given they're just promoting the Mandela movie, I don't think they will want to interlap Ordinary love with the lead single.

"And the sound of the new album? Well we kind of put it in a blender. When we make an album, usually it still ends up sounding like us, which I guess is a good or a bad thing depending on where you stand," he joked.

"But with this one, this is not a version of us you have ever heard before, that's for sure."

Okay...so Bono and Edge are saying different, while Adam said mix of old U2 with the maturity of 00's U2. Wisely, Larry remains silent.

The pick up in the tempo is more that the reticence to comment on anything album related is being relaxed lately. Whether it is concrete news about titles dates etc or not, it is still something.

Why you people who hates the last 3 albums still hanging out here? On a u2 FANS forum? I don't understand.

If you just removed the reference to NLOTH this article could be from 2004 or even 2001.

All this tells us is that Bono does not give meaningful information about the sound of a new album. And we already knew that, didn't we?

"Hate" is a strong word, but if the people who doesn't exactly "like" the last 3 albums followed your desire, this place would be empty.

I'm really tired of reading negative things each time the band offers us something! Take it or leave it.

I always loved this band and its mutations, they still offer us at this stage of their career incredible songs! They still inspire bands like Coldplay and The Killers or Muse, today! They have nothing to prove anymore so be glad to have another record soon....which lots of you here don't deserve...

Because their like U2, a good fan is a fan who can also critizise the band.
Not like everything they do...

I think most of the fans you think "hates the last 3 albums" dosnt hate them, their dont like the entirety of the album, they might like some of the songs. Not all of them.

To me ATYCLB/HTDAAB had a few realy great songs, one of their best in their whole career. But the albums as complete wasnt the best.

NLOTH was a great album that could have been one of their better if it wasnt for the songs: UC, IGCIIDGCT, SUC and GOYB.

There is a very big chance that the next album is going to be in the same way as the latest three albums. Why? Because the band are in it for the money more then ever. They dont want to take any real big chances and they also have said themself "who needs a new U2 album?". With that setting you are able to succeed as much as they did in the 80s and 90s.
What they should ask instead are "who needs an album sounding like our previous ones?".
Give damn for the money, be more creative like their where when the made songs like MOS, NLOTH, Fez, COL... And just make songs that will make them more intressting was creative musicans...

But...but...I love the other 9 albums (plus Passengers), plus all the tours, plus the miscellaneous items. Am I still permitted entrance to the Sacred Fan Forum For The U2 Devout? Oh, Wise One please forgive my shortcomings!

 So because we don't like EVERYTHING U2 has ever released like a gang of sheep, we don't deserve the new album?

The sense of self entitlement is striking... And fuckin' ridiculous.

For the record, NLOTH is my 2nd favourite album tied with Pop, I like Bomb and ATYCLB has been growing on me, helping me go through a shitty time in my life. I still hate acoustic Stuck with a passion though, and think Grace is one of the most boring pieces of music ever recorded. Sooo, how do we determine if we deserve the new album or not? :hmm:

Do you hate THIS version of acoustic 'Stuck'?

U2 Stuck In A Moment(...) ACOUSTIC -GREAT AND RARE! - YouTube

Funny, the Letterman version of Stuck was one of the things to bring me back into the fandom. Thanks for that, Loris!

True, that one is, to me, the best version I've ever heard, despite the imperfections (missing a few lyrics). It's probably the imperfection of it that allows Bono and Edge to overcompensate enough to actually make it great. That performance is proof to me that U2 are -- at their most inspired -- the same band we have all fallen in love with. Here it is again in all its glory:

 Yup. Acoustic U2 does pretty much nothing for me. And this has ripped the song of all that it had, the drums and the guitar riff were good. And Bono being thrown out of a truck a gazillion times, of course. This has nothing but the vocals, which isn't enough to make me like it I'm afraid.

I LOVE this. Acoustic Stuck any day for me, the album version is nice, but too poppy for me.

The Letterman acoustic Stuck makes me cringe. I can't stand it. Gotta say I prefer the album version as well to any acoustic version. But each to his own.

 Every source of information, be it band members, crew members or otherwise involved, speak of an album.... and people still say there is none? Wow. It's the opposite of people falling for all the rumours.

Anyone else can't get the "We can't...." chorus from 'Ordinary Love' out or their head? It's catchy!! If 10 seconds of the chorus can do that to me.....well, let's just say now I can't wait to hear the entire song....

Same for me! Can't wait to hear those athmospheric sounds with my headphones.

I fully expect they made an album that sounds exactly like U2. Nothing progressing or innovating their own sound. Just trying to do what they do best. My only hope is that whatever Gavin Friday heard that made him excited hasn't been neutered.

FTR, I haven't listened to the Ordinary Love clip. Given the timing, I'd suspect it doesn't have a lot of relation to the new album. So I don't care much about hearing only an obscured segment of a song that probably is just a throwaway anyhow.

I know the saying about fooling me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on me. The lead-up to each album release had the same comments and hyperbole, but even that comment from Bono is much tamer than what he usually come out with.

The one thing that is giving me hope that we'll see a fresh sounding, cohesive album with some new sounds, beats etc is that they're still working with DM. The fact they haven't released anything yet, hardly anyone has heard it (or if they have they're pretty much keeping schtum) and most importantly they've not drafted in any of the old guard to finish it up really makes me think we're going to get something which is, at the very least, much more interesting than the last few albums have been.
