Some months? yeah over 40, and counting at the moment, seem to remember an album was coming out late 2009 never materialised, I'll believe the next one's out only when I actually have a copy!

And the 2013 Pot Calling The Kettle Black award goes to...

You should change your Location to: "Trolling the city in disguise"

FUCK-u.gif

I knew that would come in handy some day. You should change your location to "Thumbing My Nose At The Mods And Getting Away With It"

Had to smile at the source of the image too...I guess you feel the need to use it regularly on the forums you frequent. You're special Laz, real special. :cute:

I rank both Passengers and October in my top five - one's an engrossing, atmospheric tur de force with classics like Slug, YBR, and Beach Sequence, while the other has some of the most passionate U2 songs ever recorded like Gloria, Rejoice, and Tomorrow. I can't resist either of those albums. Now cue gvox with some stupidly dismissive post about how this is somehow "wrong" whether you view it "objectively, subjectively, whatever".

You know how much I love October. You'll get no argument from me on October, period. So, since I agree, you are right about it.

Cool?

lol

(realistically though, while I love October, I wouldn't lose my ability to view it objectively and can easily state that it isn't their greatest stuff overall. I really really do love Tomorrow tho, and that skews things quite a bit for me personally)

Even if Guggi were privy to a December release date, is he the type to blab about it? Unless U2 are utilizing him as an instrument of disinformation (which is frankly, hilarious), I smell a wagon load of BS. Ditto all the other I-met-Dallas-at-McDonald's-and-while-he-was-waiting-for-his-McFlurry-he-told-me-album-out-in-December type anecdotes. At this point, the only thing we can ascertain with any degree of certainty is - they're not done yet. Which, in U2-speak, means anywhere from within the next six months, to the next eighteen months.

Wasn't the original context in which Passengers came up something along the lines of what kind of music U2 could be making for the next album?

And then there was that question (not sure if intended to be related) along the lines of what would happen if the next U2 album tanked, like, really, really badly?

Well all this viewing Passengers thru the rear view window and thinking it's such a brilliant masterpiece aside, once thing is for sure:

If U2 were to release another Passengers style album, not only would it tank miserably, but they would be finished. Done. Retired. Kaput.

So let's get real here...Passengers doesn't have much to do at all with the new album. lol

Anyways, the majority of U2 fans probably have a similarly balanced opinion of Passengers as I: it's got a couple great songs, some pretty far out ones, and some stinking crap that noone really cares about. But overall not a top 3 U2 album. Cmon now.

Exactly. They all have songwriting credit on every track.

That may be, but it still doesn't make it a U2 album.

At a stretch, it can be called a collaborative effort (yet about half the songs lack Bono's input in lyrics, and very little riffs and/or solos from Edge) and the only things that remotely sound like U2, and deliberately so, is Your blue room and Miss Sarajevo. Eno was very much the captain of that ship...and U2 made the call this is a side project when they didn't market or release it as U2.

U2 place is a little more clear than that Spanish site : the band techs said they're leaving for NY shortly to record more, and with a release aimed around Christmas time.

What would happen if the next U2 album tanked, like, really, really badly?

I thought for all intents and purposes NLOTH tanked..no hit single and not nowhere near as popular as the previous two albums.

I'm not asking that question. I'm discussing the answer to that question, that someone else asked. And I believe they actually quantified what they meant by "really really badly" and even might have mentioned NLOTH in that at least NLOTH sold at least some decent amount of units and was somewhat viewed as decent by critics.

"We have a very simple philosophy on it; two crap albums and you're out."

We all know this quote, right? And we while we don't agree on if No Line is crap we can feel pretty sure that U2 counts it as strike one. It didn't do what they want a U2 record to do. So the answer to this question should be transparent. Total tankage = end of the road. Gvox is right on this one.

No Line was absolutely a commercial and critical success.

Where it failed was to entrench it's self into the public consciousness... where it's a known entity even to those who never bought the album or are U2 fans.

Passengers: Original Soundtracks Part II

January 2, 2014.

U2 announces their retirement.

You read it here first. (someone alert Alan please, I think he's finally blocked me)

re. all the Guggi talk - the poster on the Alan Cross blog who claimed to be a friend of Guggi finally admitted it was all BS and that he was just having a laugh

twat (not that anyone believed him anyway  )

Album will be out in February. Something about it will be double- a double album, the first of 2 albums, the first single will have 2 videos, it will prominently feature 2 of the members... I don't know. I have no sources, but based on other things going on in my life, I have reason to believe this. And it's not wishful thinking- I really don't care if it's 1 album or 2. I'd be happy with one.

I believe that this next album will be the first of 2 albums. It's just that the second album will come out in 2024.

Exact quote or link, please.

I think some people at least considered believing him. At this point, all we have are rumors and people claiming something. Someone must have some kind of info, U2 don't live or operate inside a vacuum space that's hermetically separated from the rest of the world.

Yes, exactly. And if they made a second record in a row that failed to connect to the audience in that way I think they'd consider the self-destruct button. Achtung Baby and ATYCLB were high stakes albums for that reason and I think this one must be too. I'm too little to remember if it was a similar case with War.

Album 2014

Hi U2 freaks !
I'm new here but have read all of your posts and threads about new album discussions. I'm no troll, just a huge fan and in a U2 tribute band. I have no connections or friends in the U2 circle. Just want to join in on the interference madness...

As for the next album release, i speculate February 2014.
Larry rules and tells the truth. Bono lies all the way...
Anyone noticed that Edge is the only one who have kept his mouth
Shut about the new album ?

PS : and where the fuck is DM !??
