Still working on the album...

I like every song on No Line on the Horizon.

Me too, though I do think Boots and Crazy aren't great songs, BUT I don't get how people can say that Boots didn't work live. It really had the crowd going and the band was very much into it, which was great to see given that it wasn't a success. Not a good lead single, though, but then again, no song on NLOTH was really a good radio friendly song.

NLOTH is one of my favourite U2 albums ever. It has so many precious moments and I feel very much connected to the songs. I even thought most of the material worked great in a live setting and I wish they wouldn't have dropped so many new songs as the tour moved on. If their new album will be close to that efford, I'll be happy. The thing I'm scared of is that they'll shy away fro doing something like NLOTH or the mythical Songs of Ascent because of NLOTH's "failure" in a commercial sense.

And Stand up Comedy is a fun song, not more or less, don't see anything "progressive" in it and I don't understand why they didn't even try to play it live.

I hope the new album will come soon so we can start discussing the new music instead of complaining about NLOTH, it's really getting tired.

Yeah. In the 80's they had 0 children. Now they've 10, 11?

Things change. To expect them to create in 2013 as they did in 1983 is rather unrealistic.

Have a kid or 2. See how your life changes.

I understand your general point here, and I agree with this regarding album frequency.

But I don't see how it's really valid in regards to talking about them overcooking songs. I think it's pretty well documented how they spend months working on one particular song.

Are we back in 2009 again? I'm still seeing the same discussions about how GOYB was a bad lead single/song/whatever as I did 4 years ago.

This is a great point Vlad and I really have to somehow get over this turd of a song. I PRAY they DON'T play it ever again live. Maybe I should start posting on YOUTUBE.... U2 Wrote Get On Your Boots

I have to disagree, Boots wether live or recorded was just a bad idea... It makes me think they were trying way too hard for something or a sound and it failed miserably. I think an earlier Poster mentioned them trying to sound like Led Zep... bad bad bad idea. UGH I can't stop talking about this song!! Someone please help me!

And grandkids.

That's an interesting thing to think about... they'll be grandfathers soon!

Edge's daughters were born in the mid 80s, so they're at peak child birthing age right now. Maybe they already have... not much is known about his family. Bono's daughters are also of appropriate age, but we'd have heard about that. Larry's kids are teenagers, and Adam's son is a toddler! My guess is that Edge will be the first.

ANYWAY, I actually like SUC. It's not in my top 50 or anything, but I think it gets too much shit. The "Stop helping God across the road like a little old lady" line is actually a weird way of making a very good point. "Stand up to eagle but my eagle's not really the enemy" is maybe one cyllabal too long to fit in the space allowed. "God is love and love is evolution's very best day" is probably the worst line ever.

It's ego, not eagle.

All joking aside, Acrobat has a point about syllables. Modern Bono tries to cram too many words into his verses and it hurts the songs. When you listen to outtakes from old albums that the band has "finished" like Wave Of Sorrow, Disappearing Act, Oh Berlin, Heaven And Hell, etc., it's not Bono's vocal performances that betrays when they were recorded, it's the overdone lyrics.

If you want to write a book or give a TED talk, then do so. But the lyrics should fit into the music without a shoehorn and be in service of it, not trying to reshape it. The pseudo-inspirational stuff that he's been doing from 2000 onward is a little too lecturing at times and he needs to scale back. NLOTH was a bit of an improvement in this regard, though Stand Up Comedy, Boots and Crazy Tonight are all victims of that tendency.

My brother once thought that David Bowie sings "making love with his eagle" in Ziggy Stardust.

Hahahaha  Only on interference do we analyze the expected dates of U2 grandchildren by postulating which band member's daughter are at peak childbearing age!

yeah some scary posts going round this place sometimes!!

I felt like the biggest loser immediately after I posted that. HAHA!

I wish I could delete that post... sounds much more creepy and weird reading it back than it did typing it.

Dare I suggest it, and this is not really a serious comment, we need a divorce to produce some fire.

Wait this is Interference.... we have to take you serious.... whatta u mean a divorce.... will Bono be okay?

C'mon WE NEED SOME NEW INFORMATION!!!!:gah:

If the album really does come out in November (my prediction), I wouldn't expect to really hear much news until late summer. Depending on how tight lipped the band is, we may still get some album and song title rumors here and there yet. Otherwise, I wouldn't panic if we still don't know much more than we do now in July. The U2 hype machine will surely pick up steam in the fall.

^ But you wouldn't expect the usual "Edge on Fire", "Best week in studio in 75 years", "punk rock on uranus", yet? Or at least some leaked demo's (beach, Bono's car)?

Nah. Not yet. Plus we've had that talk for 3 years now. You never know about Beach Clips. A lot of that is timing and dumb luck.
