wow - that sucks. I'm sorry.
But you were saying that you might want something else with more regular hours. Maybe now's your chance. Sucks that you passed on some opportunities, but hopefully others will turn up soon.

We only started early because we get a week of vacation after the first quarter this year - FALL BREAK! I'm excited for that!

I know! my little guy is now 8 1/2 and will be 9 next summer - great traveling age - doesn't whine too much, can play his video games on the long plane ride and won't roll his eyes at having to hang with his parents (like a teenager would do).

AHhhhhh...Fall Break!! OK that's better, then!

Almost 9! It IS a good traveling age.

:giggle: Bored/or mortfied teenagers on vacation w their parents! I got like that lime sometimes! Still we often did go to things around the motels/or cabins (part of hotel) that i was interested in. We went to Howe Caverns 2'xs, went mineral/rock hunting one (an old quarry) , went specifically to Herkimer NY where Herkimrer "diamonds" - Quarts with double-ended (top and bottom) terminal points ( so neat! still have them :) ), and bunches of crafts people and occasionall yards sales in the vacinites of NY, ,V,NH & Maine>

ANd the one thing I've seem most bored teenages in a fam, often with younger sibs go from bored to intrigued/delighted is at a Butterfly House. Mine is Bronx Zoo, Seasonal !! :cute:
ANd one time a butterfly somehow fell into the little "stream" (landscaped) and the tenagers and thier younger sib formed a human chain to get to it, and put it back on it's perch.

for the Ouchies.... :hug:SSS

oh nasty combo, cori! ANd glad you're feeling better!

GR...emotional "hangover" :(
and your hih allergy time- ick.

My allergies tend toward some household, industrial, certain art oe craft stuff.
I rarely get a full on sinus infection anymore < yay> - fouind ways over the decades usually to cut it off at the pass so it dosen't get full happen or het full- blown/or shorter recovery time. I used to 1 or 2 a year or 18 monrths or so usually wintertime...and even that' a drop from earlier in my life. And I usaully have the stuffed nose, sometimes closed ear feelings and nasty drip into my throat, and what goes with that etc . Mine usually starts with the sore throat, if i have the stuff i take ( Homeopathic) early enouh I can quash it. n Or high levels of VIt C or both.

But yeah 2 or 4 years ago i had one where the pain was in the sinus area (one sided) along with the ear feeling closed up...ouch!

I DO reccomend BORION <sp?> Homeopathic meds... they meds each have for colds, ,sinuses and allegeries.

arw oh nasty change! Good luck in putting together a schedual of work.

:hyper::hyper::hyper:

i just made my first Access-a-Ride trip!

Going to Bryant Park area Midtown Manhattan, CAREFULLY walk with my quad cane down to 38th ST where 2 of my bead and jewelry stores are located.
If I still have the $ my sis gave me for my birthday (near before my accident) I'll be lookind at and buying (vs comin back next week with money) a strand of big (3/8th - 1/2 wide) rondels of Labradorite.

Rondels> think of donut shape (bit flatter top & bottom} but with a tiny hole instead.

Labradorite-- usually a grey, greyish blue mineral wit gorgerous inner sheens of usally some of these colors : a rich royal blue, cerulian, turquoise & tinting all the way to white.

ANd some times white to yellow, orange ( usually don't use those).

Yeah, my situation at work is totally out of my control at this point - just have to wait until Sept 4th for the verdict. Trying not to stress.

Italy, eh? Sounds awesome. I'd love to go to Venice and Rome... see the statue of David and the Sistine (sp?) Chapel

:zen: For us both! My big stress will be over on the 5th.

Yup, Italy's been my dream trip for a long long time now. Venice and Rome are on my list, as well as Florence, Tuscany and Milan. There are other places I'd love to see too, of course, but those five are the highest on the list.

Hope you've continued to feel better, cori!

Sorry to hear about the job frustrations, arw. I hope something awesome pops up soon for you!

it makes me entirely too proud when I'm listening to a cd in the car and Mercy gets excited and proclaims "That's Bono!' :giggle:

Aww! :cute:

Yeah, it was on for 6 seasons. He plays a NY firefighter. He was in a couple movies that weren't all that great. But this role is amazing - the script is great - the characters are awesome.

oh, and he's the voice of the sabretooth tiger in the Ice Age movies

He was awesome in The Ref who had Judy Davis and Kevin Spacey.....both amazing actors. I love that movie....why they do not play it as a Christmas movie, I'll never know.

Sorry arw, that sucks. Are there hotels hiring? They always need good pastry chefs. That's what my friend did.

So, I not only worked out with my trainer, I ran home from the gym. I got back on the horse and rode that bitch bareback!

thanks everyone....

my boss finally called me back and made it sound like there will be "some" hours but not much after next week. But then tons starting Oct 1. She tells me one thing but does something else so I don't trust her one bit. She told me a few weeks ago that I would be back to working non stop with no time off again until after the 1st of the year. It's such a shame because I really love it there when it's busy.

and GR....I was a hotel pastry chef for years before I switched to working for caterers. They were either part time jobs or they were the worst schedules ever, even worse than what I have now. Since hotels are open 7 days a week you never know what days you'll be off to plan anything. At least with caterers they tend to take off Mondays to regroup and only will take on a Monday (or even Sunday) party on the rare occasion. So for the most part I can make my own schedule as long as I get my work done. I've been at two different caterers for the last year and both run the same. Hotels are a difficult environment to be in. I loved it and thought I'd never work anywhere else but hotels but now that I've been out of that for a few years I don't know if I want to go back. One of the higher end hotels in town actually has an opening right now but I'm not interested in applying because I know the schedule will suck. The last hotel I worked for would call me at 5 am when I was supposed to be there at 6 am to tell me not to come in for the day. At least now I get a few days notice when I'm canceled. :|

I need to find an additional job because I really don't want to quit this job completely. It's at a perfect location for me and I really enjoy the work, when I have work . Also, when I actually do work a full week, I make really decent money there which is more than hotels pay. I always see job openings at bakeries or even restaurants looking for someone for 10-15 hours a week but I never want to apply because they pay less than what I make at either of my current jobs. I feel like I'm worth the price I make at my main job so it's hard to take a lower rate but it's better than making nothing right now....

gonna be up all night even though I worked at 6 am this morning. I slept for a few hours today and have had way too much caffeine tonight.

to make my day even more fantastic, I realized tonight that both my parents will be off work until Tuesday. It's my mom's actual bday on Friday and since she doesn't work on Fridays she took a vacation day for tomorrow plus it's a long weekend so...and my dad is semi retired so he is two weeks on two weeks off at his job. This is his final week off of his 2 weeks and then he goes back next week. So now I'm stuck with them until next week. Oh the joys of being a 38 year old teenager  At least we have things planned with other people so I won't be completely trapped with just them but all of my events this weekend include being with them :| I can't make plans with friends for this weekend because then I'd spend money I shouldn't spend.

arw that is such a drag. :( I hope something works out for you.

And SG that is awesome about Mercy. :cute:I felt that same way when my kids liked Bono. Of course they were a little older, (teens) but the victory was just as sweet. :D

Damn, arw, that really sucks . It's so frustrating when a job doesn't turn out the way you thought it would, but I also definitely understand liking certain aspects enough to the point where it's hard to quit altogether. Hopefully you can get those hours, and if not, hopefully you can find something else to help keep the income going. And hope this weekend turns out better than you fear it might as well. Just use those other people as buffers if need be, and if you get a chance to escape them for a few hours for some reason, you know you've got a hideout here :).

Cori, sorry you've felt bleh today, hope you're getting to feeling better now . It happens to most everyone at some point, you live and learn, right?

I've only ever gotten sick twice when drinking-once when I had some champagne, and unfortunately I drank it when I already had the beginnings of a headache that turned out to be a nasty one. Bad idea. Bad, baaaad idea. Not doing that again. And then one night when I was at a friend's place-the mix of drinks we had didn't agree with my stomach or something, apparently.

it makes me entirely too proud when I'm listening to a cd in the car and Mercy gets excited and proclaims "That's Bono!' :giggle:

I love hearing these kinds of stories :cute:.

Also, JJ, regarding that show "The Newsroom"-I've been meaning to check it out, now that the season's finished up I might go through and watch it at some point. I've heard mixed comments about it, but there are things that intrigue me as well, so we'll see how it goes.

Yep! I used to be the same way with my son!
How old is she now? 2?

4! Hard to believe!

ARW (Sorry haven't been around much and not sure if that's how yo prefer to be addressed?) I went through a recent period of unemployment and then a dead-end job just for the sake of having some sort of employment. Now I am at the best job I've ever had - and finding this job was such sheer luck (or grace of God depending on your belief) that it's mind boggling. I guess I'm just saying hang in there, maybe something much better is going to be coming out of this frustrating and scary turn of events!
Life often works that way.

Well said, SG. I often tend to believe that as well. I know that's an easy thing to say and it's hard sometimes to believe that something good is coming when you're going through a period of stress and struggle, and waiting for that good moment sucks. But it does come along eventually. I wish you the best of luck with getting all your work stuff sorted out .

I completely agree with the two of you. Although when I was going through my LONG period of unemployment, I sure as hell didn't think anything good was ever going to happen. But it was worth it to end up with the great job that I have now, despite my incredible stress lately.

thanks everyone. I feel better today after a long night of sleep.

The sucky part is about this situation is I've told everyone I know that I have finally found a great place to work. It's a very long story but my bosses went through a lot to get me to come work for them. I was sort of stolen from a competitor (I hated that job!) after I met them at an event I went to with my former boss. Then they've spent $1000's on equipment and tools I need because they've never had a pastry chef before so there was a lot I needed to properly do my job. So I know they want me there and I really want to be there....but they just haven't been able to produce the clients for me on a regular basis like they thought.

I used to work for a resort in Phoenix and we had so many kitchens there that a few of them were designated a kosher meat and a kosher dairy kitchen. Once this place found out I'm Jewish they asked me to help out with the events more than the rest of the crew because they knew I have a better understanding of kosher foods....even though I did not grow up in a kosher environment. It was easy to just throw me into the kitchen and not have to explain anything so I ended up with a lot of extra hours. After doing that for a few years I decided I really wanted to get into kosher catering back home. There's a large Jewish community where I live but not a lot of kosher options outside of a large grocery store that has full kosher facilities. None of the kosher places in town have ever had openings so this caterer is the first one I've been able to find anything. I'd like to some day open up my own bakery and have it be a kosher bakery with a small cafe because I know there's a need for stuff like that. So this is a great opportunity for me to continue to experiment with kosher foods (mainly non dairy items because it's not a problem to bake the with the same ingredients I've always used for dairy stuff). It's also a good networking situation because I feel like eventually I'm going to meet someone there that wants to help me achieve my goal and be a business partner. So I need to keep this place around but I also need money so I need to focus on finding something else part time.....

any of you with ipads that would like to buy a wireless keyboard? My mom got one when she bought her ipad but never used it. She went to return it at the Apple store but it was well after the return date so they couldn't take it back. I bought some iPad accessories for her bday that I just gave her (well...my kitty Wesley bought them for her :flirt: ) so that reminded her that she had this keyboard in her closet. It was $69 but she'll take less for it and we'll ship it to you for free. :) It's about 18 months old but their website shows the exact same thing for the same price.

you should be able to sell it quickly, just spread info

on a joke side, is it this ?
