Oh my god. It shouldn't be a shock I suppose but what a terrible, sad news. I've been a fan since her first album and despite the mess she's been in for the last few years I still held out hope she'd sort out her life. RIP :(

The publicity. It was her image, and it was the reason I could never let myself listen to her music. I just felt like she was exploiting it and even more so the record company or her people or whatever were exploiting her. I realize that it's ultimately up to her to do something about her lifestyle, but it just doesn't feel like there was any catalyst to do so as long as the image of her as a bad girl was working (not that it really was over the last couple of years)

What a stupid stupid idiotic waste!!!!

I blame everyone around her.....

If she had any kind of family or real friends, they would have seen her horrible performance in Serbia, dragged her from the stage, handcuffed her, forced her into a car and locked her away in a forced rehab center until she got clean. I'm sick of celebrties with more money than god who have every advantage money can buy and then stick their money either up their nose or in their arms.....27 is way too young to die but anyone with a brain could have seen this coming a mile away. In any case, RIP Amy - have a good time up there with your hophead role models and save a place for Lindsay...who's probably next.

I'm fed up and angry!!

I can remember when she heckled Bono during an acceptance speech at the Q awards in 2006. She was as rough as a badger's arse.

As far as Rehab goes it's been proven that the program works only if the addict wants it to work for them and that has nothing to do with fame, fortune, celebrity. As for those celebrity addicts they are victims of the lifestyle with anything they want within reach and at excess at any time with way too many enablers surrounding them. Amy even made it clear she wasn't going to rehab in song! She was a real hot mess in way too far over her head which really is a sad, sad shame.

It makes me angry to think after years of being a punching bag in the press that it takes the death of Amy Winehouse for her art and life to be treated with any amount of respect. For every slurred line or stumble paraded in newspapers or across the internet & tv there was a real person with real issues who's life and works were marginalized in order to exploit her sickness. What a shame.

This sums up my thoughts.

They want you to be Jesus
They'll go down on one knee
But they'll want their money back
If you're alive at thirty-three

I'm sure she'll sell many more records now she's dead including her unreleased new record she just finished.

Same with me. It was her image that overshadowed her talent. A talent that I only knew existed in the last 24 hours.

The amount of publicity she got a couple of years ago made me sick to my stomach from human degradation.

It would have been great if the music stood as tall as the image.

I understand the enabler aspect to her surrondings. Its not cool.

However, If I were in her immediate circle or family I would feel 'cheated' by her. All the shit they had to go through on a personal level with her. I actually feel for her ex-husband this weekend.

She certainly doesn't deserve to be listed among that company. Hendrix was on a different planet for talent to Whinehouse.

By your definition ie on a level with Hendrix, neither does Kurt Cobain or many of the others listed in the wikipedia article.

She was a talented Grammy-winning musician who died at 27. She "deserves" to be listed, sadly.

Hendrix is one of the most overrated musicians in the history of dying before you get old

Yeah true neither does Cobain. Although I don't think anyone deserves to be listed alongside Hendrix. A complete genius!

As for whineyhouse, she was waaaaay overated. Although her death will do wonders for her career.

Watch your tongue

What? What? You wanna do this?

Yeah, who knows what Hendrix would have done. The guy was already playing many musical styles before he was born, and while we can go back and forth on whether Electric Ladyland was his best, it was certainly the most ambitious and showed he was capable of doing anything next.

JT, you're out of your element.
