How I ALMOST got in

I met GretzkyU2Yanks at the MoS where the radio contest winners were boarding the bus. I decided to mill about and make friends with the staff, which I was able to do with some success. When all the ticket winners were finally loaded onto the buses, there were still 6-8 tickets remaining. I askmed my new friends nicely if there was any chance I could have one of the tickets that was just going to go to waste.

"If you are not on the radio list, I can't give you a ticket," I was told pretty forcefully by the blond woman who was checking names. But... she wasn't the one with the tickets in her hands. I asked the ticket man if there was anything he could do. "Go to the venue. That's all I can say."

The problem - I'm at the MoS. The show starts in 25 minutes and they are all leaving on the buses. I ask if I can hitch a ride on the bus. Absolutely not. So I do all I can... I sprint to the Cambridgeside galleria, hop a cab to Kendall, and take the redline to Davis. Miraculously, the buses beat me by only 2-3 minutes.

I was able to find some of the staff in line and find out from them that ticket guy's name is Rob. Armed with this, I scour everyone for my new best friend. I find him and he appears to be stunned that I made it. He's busy dealing with whiney "VIP's" (no one I recognized - radio guys I assume) that were complaining about where their seats were. He finishes up and tells me, "I'll see what I can do. Stay right here." I asked him if I was wasting my time by staying and he just said again, "I'll see what I can do."

Unfortunately, he never came back out. Just one last, final, close call to add to all the other close calls that I had on the radio. I'm glad I gave it every bit of effort I could think of though!

GretzkyU2Yanks, hope you and your wife had a great time.

hi everyone! so I have a similar story!!! HOW I ALMOST GOT IN! well technically I actually did!

SO my friend had taken tickets to go see The Wrestler at the Somerville Theater. She had bought tickets for us a few days ago after all our unsuccessful attempts to win tickets on the radio. We were pretty sad about it, so she decided we would watch a movie and go out for drinks at a bar in Davis Square and possibly listen to the show. Anyway, the irony was of course when we found out that the Theater was the actual place of the concert!!! so all day, I wondered if we should still try to head there or not. Finally, we decided to go and see if we could use our movie tickets. There were many people there at the door and the security guys were asking everyone to leave. We naively asked what was to happen to our tickets and they told us, "oh you guys can get in then!". SO, calmly we go in and HEAR Bono sing! it was so crazy! we ended up in the movie theater with 6 other people watching the movie while trying to figure out what to do afterwards. IN the end of the movie, 6 of us stayed and did everything we could not to leave. We used the restrooms, hid in the corridors....Anyway, we were not able to see them, but we were able to listen to the first 4 songs. The security people saw us, but let us stay there for a while. It was really exciting to listen to them even though we could not see anything...there was just a wall between us and them. Quite electrifying!

Wow! That must have been awesome fun anyways! I know me and my friend would have done the same thing. Hiding in the bathrooms and corridors.

I was there and Larry did appear after Bono Edge and Adam got into cars. He gave a very nice speech to the crowd something along the lines of, " I would really like to sign autographs for all of you and shake all your hands, but I really can't now. Thanks for coming out and thanks for being such great fans. See you soon." It was very touching actually.

I was there, at the front of the barricade in the middle of the line, staring straight down the alleyway.
