Tour Rumours

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Only 2 dates for amsterdam? bullshit. Holland has been getting 3 nights for as long as I can remember.
This list looks way too alike the vertigo tour dates to be real. And wtf, Russia, romania, bulgary and turkey? Sicilia? U2's never played there!

Also for the UK dates theres Scotland, Cardiff, London but no northern england dates. They'd have to do Manchester or somewhere nearby.

I can't wait until U2.com announces the dates properly. Then we can get planning.

Ugh. I really hope they come to Boston and NY on the weekend. If they don't, I won't be able to see them since I am starting a new job. :|

 With the amount of shows they do in those cities im sure you will get a least one show at the weekend.

Zooitatlia reports that Paul McGuinness spoke to some fans after the Grammy's last night.
He stated that a tour announcement can be expected in March and that there might be a second European Leg in 2010!!
 would that be cool!! Europe getting a second leg for the first time since the ZooTV/Zooropa run....

Wow if thats true then 2 European legs, we better get saving. :crossesfingers:

The London dates will probably be then or very close - if they want to do Wembley Stadium there aren't any other open slots (Take That & Oasis there the 2 weekends previous) so it is reasonable to suggest July 17/18 for U2. It would also fit in with the rumoured dates for Croke Park. I guess they will slot in either Cardiff, Manchester or Glasgow between London & Dublin. The rest, again the venues might be close but any of us could work out "roughly" what stadiums they might play in.

Re Manchester, not sure they will do Eastlands (City of Manchester) again. When Oasis were booking their tour this year they were effectively told "no, we don't need the money" by the new owners there and have ended up in a field.

:lmao: @ ending up in a field. Aren't the Oasis boys big City fans, bet that made them happy.

That sucks about Eastlands though, its the so near the city centre you can walk back. I guess if they couldn't get there they would maybe choose Trafford cricket ground. A few people play there or skip Manchester or choose another northern city. :sigh:

Got a word from my ticket broker friend about the stage set up this morning.

It's in the round (he said the diagram given to his comapny was a heart shaped stage but he thinks it's a temp design since they've already used the heart) the thing that he told me which i will believe when I see it (and he said the same cause he doesn't know how thye'd do this) is that the stage lifts up mezzanine level, leaving no bad seats in the house.

He said there were dates booked for meadowlands in NJ and that all the shows they've been told about so far have been outdoor with a strong rumor from Live Nation that U2 may be ending their 2 year tour with shows at MSG here in NY.

We'll see.

yeah right

If they skipped Manchester i'd have a hissy fit. I would end up going to a london show which would cost easily £££ in accommodation and transport. Money i dont have to be honest.

Eastlands was always such a good venue too

I'll definitely go to London anyway but somewhere SLIGHTLY more Northern would be nice for a change.

unless they take the fall/winter of 2009/10 to record another album with "every breaking wave" and "tripoli" or whatever, and then release that in one year's time and then start said US tour.

i mean, in a perfect world, that's what would be happening.

Not unprecedented -- it sounds like they have much more material left over from the last two years than they did with "Zooropa," and if they want to promote the US tour, a new something -- EP, album whatever -- wouldn't hurt.

yes, that could be great! and fair...
if i remember well there was talk during elevation tour to do a 2nd european le, but finally it was cancelled. Is this true? doean anyone remember?

Yes, this is true. They had planned a European stadium tour for the summer of 2002 and many of the dates and venues were even leaked online.

I attended what turned out to be the Elevation tour finale in Miami and at the time, crew members knew about the proposed 2002 tour leg.

I asked a well known U2 bodyguard about this 2002 tour leg when he was working on the Rolling Stones tour in fall 2002 and he told me that yes, there defininitely was a planned 2002 tour leg, but he said that after their success at the Grammys in February of that year, the band felt that that chapter was completed and decided to instead focus on the next album.

As originally planned, I was told in April 2001 that after the fall US leg that was to have ended in Los Angeles on November 19, the band was planning to head to Australia and Japan for dates going into December and at that time, the plan was to end the tour in South America in January 2002. If you look at the original tour programs for Elevation, it even refers to the tour as Elevation 2001/02 or 01/02.

I was thinking that too. Maybe the second Euro leg is a hint they're considering an album in 2010.
