Netflix Ups Their Prices/Pisses Me Off

(Mods, if this should go somewhere else, or if there already is a discussion of it somewhere please...)

For U.S. folks:
Quote:
We are separating unlimited DVDs by mail and unlimited streaming into two separate plans to better reflect the costs of each. Now our members have a choice: a streaming only plan, a DVD only plan, or both.

Your current $14.99 a month membership for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs will be split into 2 distinct plans:

Plan 1: Unlimited Streaming (no DVDs) for $7.99 a month
Plan 2: Unlimited DVDs, 2 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $11.99 a month

Your price for getting both of these plans will be $19.98 a month ($7.99 + $11.99). You don't need to do anything to continue your memberships for both unlimited streaming and unlimited DVDs.

These prices will start for charges on or after September 1, 2011.
Now, unlimited streaming for $7.99 is still a good deal, but I love Netflix for the obscure DVDs you can find. The streaming quality is not always great, too.

I'm not sure what to do because I like it both ways. However, there are months were I am too busy and have 2 DVDs sitting on my player getting dusty because I can't get to them.
$20 per month is getting close to just waiting and buying DVDs when they hit $5, $7 or $10 at Target.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Suggestions?
Is anyone actively using Comcast's Xfinity options online? What's the latest with Hulu?
I'm only a torrent fan for U2 and a few other bands, so I'm not likely to do that for movies and TV shows.

I'll probably let them put me in the "both" service for now, because I keep intending to use the streaming service more, but if it turns out I'm still not using it, I'll drop down to the DVD only feature.

This statement can go into the "taking quotes out of context can be funny" pile.

Oh and Netflix sucks donkey balls.

Honestly, I was going to put the next to it, but remembered that Interference needs no encouragement.

And, if I could get it both ways for $20 per month? Then... done!

i never used the DVD service, only the streaming service. my hope is that many people will abandon the DVD servicd and switch to streaming only, forcing Netflix to add more titles.

yep, that's my dream n' shit.

There is another thread where we're discussing this in Lemonade Stand, but I don't mind having another place to bitch bitch bitch about this. I'm really not sure what I'm going to do, but I don't want Netflix to think they can get away with not just two price increases in one year, but a FIVE DOLLAR one to boot.

I was gonna downgrade earlier this year but was hesitant. I think this ordeal has pushed me in that direction.
I think I'm gonna see what the list of streaming movies on hulu+ is and then decide if it's worth just canceling my six-year-old account and switching over.

This movie would make sense if they said that within the next year or two they'd be getting their entire catalogue on instant watch, but if you're gonna be paying more for the same crap offerings, what's the point?

from what i've seen, Hulu+ isn't very strong in the movies department.

Hulu's Criterion and NBC connections were enough for me to buy into an account with a few of my friends. They've also got a ton of Miramax titles.

hmm...i suppose that's an idea. have you run into any problems with you and your friends being logged in under the same account at the same time?

Yes, but we let each other know if we're gonna watch something.

The fact that I've had an Enter the Void Blu sitting here for a few months is evidence enough that I should only keep my instant stuff.

I like to watch movies in front of the TV, rather than the computer, but my husband likes to watch on the computer at night, so we're SOL. We'll have to pay up.
