i was probably just logging in more than actually posting, which is why i thought i was here more than it looked like i was here.

after deciding the show was a pile of crap and goren downright annoying, i started watching the daily re-runs on usa, then the stuff bravo shows on sunday nights, then they had that marathon...and might have bought season 2 on dvd. and i downloaded all the goren/eames season 6 episodes that have aired so far. logan = snoozefest, which is too bad because he was cool in old school regular law and order (ah, thank you netflix). but goren is awesome.

obsess much? me?

^ I started the same way with CI - hated it at first. Now, I've developed quite an affinity for Goren's creepy/brainy/weirdo ways.

Matter of fact, Mr. Blu & I got completely sucked into an episode the other night, sitting up 'til 12pm on a work night to watch it, only to find out too late it was a 2-parter... and USA didn't show the 2nd part!!!! The episode was 'In the Wee Small Hours' & was about the prep school boy who's adbucting these girls from clubs & then filming his sexual assaults on them to broadcast on his blog. Big twist? Daddy of Pervert, Jr. is a big judge - anyone see both parts to this story? What happened in the end?

And although I'm thrilled that new episodes are back for SVU, & I love the crusty old bird played by Brian Dennehy, did anyone else think Tuesday's show was a bit....weak?

the two parter was awesome, i was probably watching it at the same time you were. usa did show the second part, they just showed it the next day. turned out that the kid's mother dumped the girl's body in the salt marshes where the dog disappeared. the judge had sex with the girl over his desk, the entire thing was about how the kid was trying to impress his dad. in court, the judge has his lawyer try to make all the major case detectives look like unstable, crazy people by digging up some fbi file or barek's, brutality complaints against logan, and a letter that eames wrote requesting a new partner (and eventually withdrew, obviously) because she thought goren was nuts. they also sent a guy to harrass goren's mother, and when goren went to rip the judge a new one over it, he got him to confess to raping the missing girl.

i think that's pretty much what happened.

i thought tuesday's svu was a hell of a lot better than all the crap they've done so far this season. on a similar note, the season 6 premiere of ci > the season 8 premire of svu. kidnapped eames and goren's batty old mentor was far superior to the return of the fbi agent and olivia running off with the hippies.

love the way they dealt with goren's tantrum from the previous goren/eames episode there's a lot to be said for not blowing the drama out of proportion.

Ok, I am bumping this one back up.

I've always had a soft spot for L and O, but only the original. However, lately I've been watching SVU and CI marathons on USA and TBS and I gotta say...they're growing on me. Particularly CI. SVU was always pretty easy to get into, but Goren's character grated on me for a while. Now I can't wait to see what weird thing he's going to be an expert in next.

I don't think I've actually ever watched a NEW episode, nor do I think I care to. I'm happy to catch the years and years of rerun fun one by one by one.

my 180 degree turn from the first few posts i posted in this thread -- CI is excellent, and i think i actually like it better than SVU now.

so, sulawesgirl apparently didn't watch either CI or SVU last night, but did anyone else? i know this thread is pretty much dead, but i feel obligated to ask anyway.

Yeah I did, it was so weird. The last few episodes have really had me grimacing. The plot takes so many turns, it's ridiculous. What happened to finding a body/vic, investigating the crime, and prosecuting the perps? Last night's episode went from a dude on a PCP rage to kiddy porn, to a mom with something to hide, to a crappy apartment building with lots of break-ins, to a terrorist attack, to some kind of chemical experiment on kids. Please. Hargitay seems to get worse as time goes, or maybe I was to enthralled originally to realize how bad the acting was.

I agree with you both that CI really is the better of the two at this point. How well you like it seems to depend on how you react to the characters, so it may take some time to get into Goren. D'Onofrio is probably one of the best actors any of the series have ever had.

the dude on pcp was just there to injure stabler so they'd have a reason for not putting him in the episode. they probably doubled up on filming, and meloni was probably occupied with the whole excessive force murder accusation episode that's on next week.

the storyline wasn't too out there, it was fairly linear and easy to follow. it seemed a lot more simplistic than a lot of the ci stuff. not last night's ci, because last night's ci was fairly obvious, but earlier ci, say seasons 1-3. i had it figured out before munch's explaination, no problem.

this season of svu has been less than amazing. and i'm saying that as someone who thought season 7 was pretty good. even with the whacky asthetic changes to ci (loss of the doink doink time cards, music in the intros, etc) and upping the amount of personal drama (we're meeting goren's brother in 2 weeks so not necessary), it's been much better. the logan episodes have overall had pretty good storylines, even if wheeler is the most irritating person in the world.

agreed. all the mannerisms and speech patterns are goren. at first, i mistook that for shitty, shitty acting. now i know it's all the character (and he's grown on me so that stuff doesn't annoy me anymore), and this is the same guy who played the bug guy (edgar!) in men in black, pooh bear in the salton sea, which i think are still the only two movies i've seen him in. but i netflixed the homicide: life on the streets episode he guest-starred in, and that was damn good. he does an excellent job.

hargitay's never really been too good an actress. i don't see how she gets nominated for awards (and actually wins some of them).

it seems awfully dated. not the subway episode, but the giant 3-part (which plotwise didn't have enough twists for me) felt awfully dated. i wish i could explain better. i think it was the music usage more than anything else. maybe i should start from the beginning, because those episodes were way toward the end.
