I can't believe someone else listed Richmond Fontaine!!!
Way to go.
Maybe they'll finally get the recognition that they deserve.

They really should get a hell of a lot more recognition than they do. The Fitzgerald is not only one of my favourite albums of last year, but one of the best I've ever heard. If you get a chance to see them live, do so. I saw them in Dublin in October, and got the chance to have a chat with them afterwards - while they were putting away their own gear!!!

Great band.

best album of 2005

it would have been had the stones not released a bigger bang

I just reviewed the list of albums I bought in 2005 and it was a lot! It's also very difficult to me to edit it to a small list, so here are some of my favourites bought last year (and I'm excluding compilations):

The Beatles - Revolver
Elvis Costello & The Attractions - This Year's Model
The Costello Show - King Of America
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
Thé Lau - De God Van Nederland
Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run
Jasper Steverlinck - Songs Of Innocence
Joss Stone - The Soul Sessions
Stevie Wonder - Talking Book

And too many honourable mentions to mention.

Must agree: Wolf Parade's "Apologies to the Queen Mary" as best album i bought.

(Biggest disappointments: Illinoise by Sufjan and Twin Cinema by New Pornographers...waaay over rated, both of them)

funeral - arcade fire (without a doubt my best album of 2005)
x&y - coldplay
late registration - kanye west
demon days - gorillaz

well those are the ones i had on repeat for days on end!

other commendable mentions:
kaiser chiefs employment (it took me ages to admit to myself i actually like this!)
white stripes - get behind me satan
bloc party - silent alarm

1. X&Y - Coldplay
2. Out of Exile - Audioslave
3. You Could Have HAd It So Much Better - Franz Ferdinand
4. Don't Beleive the Truth - Oasis
5. In You Honor - Foo Fighters

and I will be buying Funeral soon so I'm sure that would be in the top 3

Never really heard much of Simple Minds until I listened to their best of, some of the stuff I really liked, some of it I wasn't so keen on.

So I brought 050505 (not long after it came out, September I think), and I really liked it, good album, love "Underneath The Ice".

Best albums I brought in 2005 besides the Simple Minds one were (in no order)...

Snow Patrol - Final Straw

Radiohead - The Bends (I always wondered what the fuss about
Radiohead was all about, but after listening to this its easy to see why, absolutely fantastic album).

Radiohead - OK Computer (brought this shortley after I brought The Bends, not as good as The Bends IMO but an excellent album anyway)

Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth

REM - New Adventures In Hi-Fi

Blur - Blur
