need the next single to give the album a boost back up the charts in the UK, i think theres a big chance when the tour comes to the UK + release of next single, that the album will go back to number #1

Yes,i think so...in top 40 there is Nevermind (Nirvana).... with a good third single and the tour Atomic Bomb will rise the uk chart again!

....so....my predictions for Joshua Tree and Sometimes were rather optimistic (ok....they were crap).

At least 'the bomb' only slides 6 places (again!). This means that overall sales in UK should now have passed 1060000 as it probably sold about 3500-4000 last week.

And yes...the effect of Channel 4's top 100 albums means that Nevermind re-enters at #28. Also, Parachutes goes up to #47 & OK Computer re-enters at #56. Still, I bet Joshua Tree is in top 100.

#31 with 24K would be a great result. I hope your proved correct (again!).

So, why isn't HITS operating? Maybe it's a bank holiday or just technical problems.

Anyway :

Holland : #17 (#17) - Is that 200-300K, Popmartijn/anyone ?

I really don't know. It's almost impossible to get any sales info here. I do know that there were 110K copies shipped to shops late last year. Don't know where we are now...

Oh well. I guess the answer is to contact the people at Universal Holland (they MUST know the correct sales figures).

Thanx for the quick reply anyway.

OK folks, here's some cool news -

Just got Musicweek & HTDAAB has now been officially certified 4xPlat (1200000) in UK !!!!

Also, Radiohead's 'OK Computer' sold 4075 copies (a massive 413.9% increase!) last week to re-enter at #56. So, HTDAAB, at #58, must have sold close to that figure - I think 3800 is a good estimate. So, as I said earlier, total sales in UK should now be about 1060000. :)

Another charts from Europe: Denmark 22 (18) - Norway 18 (20) - Sweden 37 (42) - Netherlands 17 (17).

Thanx for this information, VALE69. I always thought my estimate of 400-500K for France was a bit high. So I will now say 300-400K sold in France so far.

Also - Tallarico....I think your prediction for BB this week (#42-43 with 18K) could be spot on!

Thanks Edge3,
I am happy for HTDAAB to be certified 4xplatinum in UK,
but what about ATYCLB?I think it has sold about 1085000 copies and it's still 3x platinum.

Yes, I wish they would certify ATYCLB 4xPlat also but the certifications simply don't always = the actual consumer sales. In fact you could say that HTDAAB is quite fortunate to already be certified 4xPlat when you consider that is still 140K short of selling 1200000 and :

Musicweek say that OK Computer has now sold 1,221,934 copies in UK and yet it is still only 3xPlat (900K). This is similar to Queen's 'Greatest Hits 1, 2 & 3' : only last week Musicweek said that it had sold 1,360,340 & yet it is still only certified 3xPlat. Also, I am certain that The Joshua Tree has sold about 2,300,000 in UK & yet it is still only certified 6xPlat (5xPlat when it appears in the OCC/Musicweek top 75 album chart). I also think that The Unforgetable Fire has sold over 1M in UK & yet it is still only certified 2xPlat (600K).

At least last week they finally re-certified Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon' from 7xPlat to 9xPlat. So, hopefully they will also soon update the certifications for JT & UF.

so HTDAAB is not far behind OK Computer in sales, and yet everyone always says that OK Computer is 1 of the best albums ever. and also HTDAAB has sold almost as much as Queens Greatest Hits 1,2 & 3.
Pretty Impressive.

I thought that the Joshua Tree was below 2,000,000 though

There is a gap from 115k to 1.2 m for 4xplatinum-certificiation. And i don't think, that the shops have so much albums in stock.

Well, here are a few facts & figures regarding the sales of JT in UK :

1. JT was certified 6xPlat (1.8M) on 1st March 1992. Since then its spent 41 wks on the top 75 UK album chart.

2. The feb 1998 edition of Q magazine said JT had sold 2M copies in UK.

3. In 2001 JT must have sold at least 100K 'cos it spent 18 wks on the top 75 UK album chart and was the 115th best selling album of the year (in 2004 the 115th best selling album of the year sold 150K).

4. A list of the top 10 best selling rock albums of all time in the UK from sept 2003 put JT 10th. The Verve's 'Urban Hymns' was 5th with sales of about 2.8M and The Beatles' '1' was 9th with sales of about 2.4M.

Taking these facts & figures into consideration I would say that JT has sold at least 2.2M in UK - even though it is still only certified 6xPlat (1.8M).

I found these results for U2's albums in Netherlands but I honestly dont think they're right. You go to this website and do a search...
http://www.nvpi.nl/nvpi/pagina.asp?metnaam=nvpi&pagkey=25462
But here you go...

War - Gold
Unforgettable Fire - Gold
Joshua Tree - Platinum
Rattle And Hum - Platinum
Achtung Baby - Platinum
Pop - Gold
80-90 - Platinum
ATYCLB - 2 x Platinum
90-00 - Platinum
HTDAAB - Gold

Platinum up until recently was 100,000 copies.
Now we know that Bomb went platinum right after release and I refuse to believe that Joshua Tree was only Platinum considering it was number 1 for 13 weeks straight when it was released. U2 have always had a huge following in Netherlands and surely Achtung or Rattle sold at least 200,000 copies each.
Discussion anyone?
