i've seen a tab for this wicked intro they did during the elevation tour. you know the slow, maybe 45 sec. intro. but i'm wondering what effects are present for it to sound so unbelivable. does anyone know? or maybe some one with a well trained ear can listen to it and pick them out?

You can also make it sound decent by picking out chord variants on open (clear) channel... without distortion. If you crank it up it does the trick quite nicely. As for the authentic take on it, I'm sure strato is pretty close.

The intro to The Fly is simply picked guitar notes played over a sequencer that produces that spacious, almost magical sound and feel.

Basically the guitar part is as follows:

E-----------------9----------------------------------5---------------------
B--------------------10---------------------------------5-----------------
G------------11---------11--------------------------------6--------------
D--------11-----------------11--------------7----------------7----------
A-----9-----------------------------------7--------------------------------
E--------------------------------------5------------------------------------

E------------------------------------------------
B-----------------7------7------7--------------
G-------------7------7------7------7----------
D---------7-----------------------------7------
A-----5-----------------------------------------
E------------------------------------------------

The 'Whoosh' sound is simply produced by Bono with the microphone very close to his mouth going "Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

What do you mean 'WHAT?'

Try reading Marik's post again, it's only at the top of the page!

I think the words, "I'VE SEEN A TAB FOR THIS WICKED INTRO THEY DID DURING THE ELEVATION TOUR, YOU KNOW, THE SLOW, MAYBE 45 SEC INTRO" gives perhaps a slight hint to the fact that it IS the live version we're talking about so, just maybe there is a tiny chance of credibility to what I said?

Why did you think the album version had anything to do with it?
I maybe wrong but the words 'ELEVATION TOUR' lead me away from the 1991 released version!!!!!

But nevermind.. HaHa

Is is a type of pitchshift, with a stringpad and a bit of reverb. It appears to be a sequenced part, so it should not be confused with Edge's "shimmer" treatment.

A3 is correct. Also used for intro of Mysterious Ways. Actually it is preset #76 on the Guitar Card-good luck finding the card although there is an A3 user's website that I think has a downloadable version. Also try the usual auction sites for the A3 and cards.

AND for Zoo Station! and maybe desire.... not sure.... maybe the yahmaha spx1000 is used for desire...:eyebrow:

i've been looking everywhere for this damn tab!!! :hyper:

I recently worked this intro out courtesy of some help from the guys on the u2soundforum. I'm pretty certain the treatment for the elevation Boston version intro is as follows.

Lpc->delay->ac30
|->h3000(crystal echoes 2)->electrix filter factory(notch filter w/ lfo)->ac30

There may be a bit of drive pushing the amp on the main delay signal, perhaps sdd3000 or fa-1
