Look... I have zero idea what happened with this seemingly random trip to Walter Reed on Saturday, and I don't want to get into conspiracy theories and all that.
But I do know this... I was at Walter Reed Saturday. I arrived about 2 hours before him and left about 30 minutes before he arrived. I was running a work event in their gym. I drove into the facility in a van filled with basketball equipment, escorted by a USO employee. The van wasn't searched. There wasn't any extra security. There was one dude with his big gun and terrible Movember stache' screening cars.
There was no extra police presence on the streets when I left. Everything was perfectly normal.
I've been around this city long enough now to know that this is not the SOP for a planned POTUS visit.
Whatever it was, it was certainly not something that was on the schedule. No chance. Maybe he choked on a pretzel. Fuck if I know. Maybe Eric glued his mouth shut.
That IS interesting.
I've been in DC a bunch of times since '70 including when the motorcade was out and about (as well as when he's [for now] visiting nyc) the security at place and area would not just be the regular stuff if a
scheduled visit by The President was going to happen.
My favorite was his closing statement. He said - my friends across the isle want to say that you were working an irregular channel in Ukraine and we know that that isn't true, that you were actually working the official channel.
Yeah Einstein - you just made a clear argument that the "official channel" that included the president, and the state dept, were the ones working on the nefarious dealings, and the other honest people were left out.
bravo buddy
Heh
Unfortunately, what they do have also, are stupid, supporters (sorry)
But the fact that when you look at the top lines of impeachment polls, and there is a question that asks - Did Trump ask the Ukranian President to investigate Burisma and the Bidens?
And 35% of people say NO. That is what we are dealing with here. There are the plainly stupid, and there are also the stubbornly ignorant because they want someone this racist and cruel and horrible to be in power.
I use the term "willfully ignorant" - and your last sentence is unfortunately true for a certain amount of the American people.
I am completely fascinated to see how America would react to a gay candidate. I think it would be an issue, the WaPo article on Chasten’s brothers was heartbreaking and relatable (not directly) to me, and felt very real.
Then again, 11 years ago we elected someone named Barack Hussein Obama. So anything is possible.
I have noticed the gay jokes in clickbait headlines (“Pete on top” “Pete blows past field in Iowa”) all this week since, um, topping the Iowa polls. It’s not unintentional.
Having not seen these headlines, but yeah, def intentional. It would interesting, and scary for Pete and his family and friends, team etc, what with seriously violent anti-LGBTQI assaults still happening.
Yeah, there's definitely people out there who are trying or will try and make a thing out of Pete's sexuality, for sure. But honestly, I ultimately think, or at least, I'd like to think, that most Americans would be like, "...so what?" at the end of the day. I mean, if he is doing well in more rural states, I'm guessing that's got to be a good sign of some sort.
Interesting point about the rural states, though we in the cities have our share of (usually) conservative religious people who also hold discriminatory views.
It will totally become an issue. ie, do you think Putin from super homophobic Russian is going to take some homo seriously? And will go from there — being gay is far more of an issue globally than being a woman or being non-white. We are put to death and/or jailed in many countries.
But maybe voters won’t care. I do think it will be an issue, because there is no bar that Trump will not lower.
Yes, Trump, would lower that bar. Ugh, it'd be awful! Still it might be possible that
enough voters won't care- especially with change has happened over these past 20+ years.
As far as us women goes, imho it maybe closer in comparison than you think. I mean bride burnings, honor killings, "you can't be raped if you're married" crap, women wanting to get a higher education, or an education past, what, 4th? grade in some places, being assaulted, acid thrown when a woman doesn't follow the rules, even at times jail.
If the USA (shudders) ever became a Christian Theocracy the LGBTQI community, and most women, and people of color would be in for even more trouble, and worse!
I like the "et moo, Nunes?"
Nothing says "I'm tired of all these taxes" like moving to a place that literally has "taxation without representation" printed on their license plates.
Heh.
Poor Rep Eleanor Holmes, i believe, (along with others) has fighting fir DC representation for decades!
bye-bye, BiBi.
Oh, i suuuuure hope so!
Now
this is a interesting/troubling theory i hadn't heard...

Because they already got away with it once. I believe Ukaraine got their javalans in a quid pro quo to stop cooperating with Mueller in exchange for the javalans.

I wish someone would whistleblow about that. I never understood why Trump agreed to help Ukraine since it didn’t go along with every other Russian wish he’s fulfilled. That makes perfect sense.
I think i actually had a vague passing thought during these hearings about why he did send aid to Ukraine as per post right above posits.
