The Apple iPod ads all feature a silhouetted figure rocking out against a single-color background.

I was watching Rattle & Hum the other day, and made the connection between the iPod ad and the moment when U2 takes the stage for the start of "streets," where they're all silhouetted against that red screen.

Bono did the same thing with "The Fly" on the Elevation tour, too, when he'd run up to the flashing screens and plaster himself against them at the end of the song. Watch the Boston DVD "Fly" performance and you'll see what I mean.

Methinks U2 should get royalties from all those iPod billboards...

U2 raking in the royalties.
:hmm:

I'm sure they could do with the extra cash.

Interesting...but highly unlikely. I adore the silhouetted band at the beginning of Streets. It looks amazing. I'm not ashamed to say this, but whenever I watch that R&H movie, I cry a little at the beginning of Streets EVERY TIME.

On the topic of the iPod silhouette thing, did anyone in Canada see last night's (at least I think it was last night's - it was the first time I'd seen it, anyway) episode of Royal Canadian Air Farce? The one with the nun promoting the new iGod? I found it mildly offensive, being a Christian and all, but I couldn't help giggling a little at the silhouetted nun jamming to religious music.

I'm sure if you mined videos, not just music videos, but just about any, from the 60s on, you'd find silhouettes to be not all that unusual
