A Single Tear
She shed but a single tear for him,
Yet it was enough
To break her heart,
For in that single tear
She lost all of her girlhood dreams,
Foolish notions of romantic love.
Everything she had believed
To be noble and fine
Lay shattered at her feet,
Illusions crumbled, hope despair?d.
She watches the rain on a soft spring eve,
Her cheek against the window pane,
Sighs expressively,
Knowing never again can she love
So purely, so deeply,
For the single tear shed by the girl
Brutally ripp?d a fragile soul,
The woman who brushed the tear away
Was but her shell.
