I ripped this idea off digitize's thread celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Point Depot Lovetown shows. And i know the title is drenched in hyperbole, but hey, what the hell
Today is the 20th anniversary of the final Lovetown show in Rotterdam, and i believe it is an occasion worth remembering. Whatever you may think of Bono's singing style at this time, you cannot fail to acknowledge how ridiculously powerful and strong his voice was. And if some claim this to be the zenith of his singing, I wouldn't find myself disagreeing too strongly with that either. This was the time when Bono stopped shouting (something which makes the JT tour my least favourite of all), and started singing like a rock demigod.
This performance of Bad (from that final Lovetown show exactly 20 years ago today) is a small but potent testament to how effortlessly this guy managed to sing so powerfully, with his voice soaring so magnificently over the transcendental, uplifting sound of U2, at this truly magical time two decades ago
