    Dublin: U2 pilgrimage time?

Thanks, all, for the advice! My friend's cousin (with whom we were staying) got one whiff of my U2 fangirlishness and promptly made sure we got around to see Windmill Lane, Mount Temple, and the Clarence. (I got teased the whole time too, but it was worth it!)

    Dublin: U2 pilgrimage time?

I'll be going to Dublin with a friend for a few days next week, and would like to try and see a U2 "site" or three while I'm there. Can't exactly spend a day on Hanover Quay hanging around to try and meet the band, but does anyone have some suggestions for U2-related places that could be cool...

    U2 lyrics you sing wrong

I admit to consistently hearing "A prizefighter in a corner is told" from Silver and Gold as "A glass spider in a cornerless hole." Yes, I realize it makes no sense, but it's totally what the syllables sound like!

I remember when we could sleep on stones

I've got a couple of ZooTV bootlegs and by far the best version is 5/31/1992 London. The cry he lets out just as the guitar and drums kick in from the intro to the first verse is guaranteed to give you goosebumps.

I know I bash UF (the album) here quite often, but...

Promenade into Streets... I'm getting chills just thinking about it. I agree that the B-sides are stronger tracks than many of the tracks that actually made UF - but I've always found the album as a whole to flow very well, and create a great mood. I don't know where you could put The...

    U2 and Allen Ginsberg?

    Ah, thank you!

    U2 and Allen Ginsberg?

I was recently reading an article on PBS's website about Allen Ginsberg, and toward the bottom it said: "Among the collaborators of his final years were members of the bands Sonic Youth and U2." Does anyone know what this collaboration was? I'd love to read or hear it!

What would you engrave on your iPod?

Atomic Bono, I think "Looking for a sound that's gonna drown out the world," is brilliant for an iPod. In that vein, how about not "Dream out Loud," but another line from Zooropa: "I hear voices, ridiculous voices"?

    "GLORIA.... in te domine..." {latin experts would be helpful}

"Gloria in te domine" = Glory in you, Lord. It's "Exultate," not "exalte," I think... that means "rejoice" or "exult." "Miserere" = Have pity on me.

    Good U2 Ringtones?

I have New Year's Day too, although I'd really like to have the opening chimes of the William Orbit version of Electrical Storm.

Non-Single Survivor: Achtung Baby - Round One

I like how absolutely no one has voted for Ultraviolet yet. Interferencers have good taste.

    With or without you

It turns out that indeed is a genuine quote - Epigrams 12.47. Sweet!

    With or without you

    M. Valerius Martialis? He's better known as Martial. Was there a citation on this? I'll look it up at school - I take Latin, and we have a nice classics library.

    Most uplifting U2 song

My top happy U2 song is Pride, live - the bit on Rattle and Hum where the crowd realizes what song is starting and roars in response right as the guitar really picks up never fails to make me grin. COBL is a close second, just for being so ecstatic (and longing, too, with the guitar in the live...

Song of the day 17-09-05: Mofo

I feel like whatever Discotheque was trying to do, it ALMOST managed to do it, and then Mofo actually did do it. Wasn't there a thread a while back about how if you reverse Mofo, it's still a coherent song? I'd like to hear that. I'd like to like to here Mofo either way, really, but I have...

    Hawkmoon 269

I always heard the chorus as singing "In the heart of a deeper love," though I wouldn't bet that I'm right. I like the layer that gives to the song, though.

City of blinding lights: Reference to god?

I really like it as just an epithet for NYC, though. Oh, wait. Same thing. ;) The bit at the very end ("Blessings not just for the ones who kneel...luckily") reminds me of something Philip Yancey once said - he talked about seeing the beauty in the world and falling in love, what he called...

    Brideshead Revisited Appreciation...

They're re-showing it? Oh excellent! I just spent a month in Oxford, and spent a decent amount of my time paying homage to Brideshead. My friend and I actually bought a bear, named him Aloysius, and brought him punting with us.
