If less bands are touring, doesn't it affect the promoters and ticket sellers, as well as the venues? Something else will have to give. Though I suppose companies like Live Nation and Ticketmaster will be fine because they will still make money off the bigger artists who are able to tour and charge a lot to do so.

Yeah, I really think that the venues will feel it soon. So many venues tailor made for mid sized indie acts popped up in the last 10-15 years, I don’t know how they could survive. Maybe we will start getting 50-night LCD Soundsystem residences at Brooklyn Steel every year.

My copy has Anthem Part Two Live From Chicago at the end, one of their punk thrashers, with an adlib at the start about a kid in his high school PE class getting a boner. it's completely incongruous haha. Definitely gonna go to the 2024 show. Not too interested in new music though. The self-titled and the hits (of which there's at least a dozen bangers) is all I need.

Blink and Green Day (with International Superhits!) have two of the ultimate all killer no filler greatest hits packages. I’m not saying they’re the best, but it’s banger after banger with no weak album stretch bogging them down.

Great new albums by Bill Callahan and The 1975 out today.

(Yes, The 1975 finally made a good, compact album)

Eno has a really good (if mightily heavily and depressing) new record out, and those fans of the Karl Hyde collaborations from a couple of years ago may be pleasantly surprised, as a I was, to find a sequel of sorts in the tracklisting (probably the best song on the album, too)

A little late to the game here, but damn this new Alvvays album is living up to the hype, easily an AOTY contender.

Liking the CRJ a lot as well, naturally.

Pitchfork 90s Reader’s Poll finally up; obvious picks for #1 song and album but at least Shuttlecock was vindicated with Achtung getting to #35.

Pavement got their first 3 albums on there, wishing Brighten the Corners made the cut too but oh well. I think only Nirvana, Bjork, and Aphex Twin equaled that total, so Billy Corgan can suck it.

It's interesting that we've had convos where people have shat on Pitchfork for going mainstream or being outwardly more diverse (in some ways, Gump makes great points) but then you look at that reader list and it's a classic, boring, straight white male list of 90s records, really. Interesting when you select female for the drop-down how it changes.

As for you saying it's too straight, I'm not going to assume or infer the sexual orientation of every artist in the Top 100, but it's fair to say that a good number of them at least have large queer followings.

Could there be more names on both the lists above? Sure. But for a website that has its origins in indie rock, I don't know how much more diverse you'd expect or want it to be. Seems like most of the big names are represented here. But please enlighten us as to what would make this a more authentic list.

The reader list seems a lot less tryhard, not gonna lie. Just a ton of good albums, no super obvious agenda. I think it’s a critic’s job to help guide the direction of what is and what isn’t remembered by the critical community and that’s important but it sucks when great albums get left out because the current zeitgeist doesn’t value them.

Happy 80th to Milton Nascimento. I wish I managed to see him here a couple of weeks ago.

I genuinely did not know about this Duran Duran collaboration. He's such a chameleon.

Really? I thought we'd talked about it before.

Yeah The Wedding Album was one of the first CD's I ever bought (along with Zooropa) when I was 13. It's a pretty good track for that era of Duran Duran. I was always curious what he was saying in what I thought was Spanish at the time.

It's a little abstract and impressionistic, but roughly this (it is a little more poetic in Portuguese, though not his best lyric) :

Lady muse of peace
Hold me
Carry me

...

Sleeping in the arms of pain
Friend, raze
Your hand drew
A dream in the sand
Now, give me for once
My path
And life

...

Say a joyful word
Send a message
Let it be now
Make the world new
And dance in the arms of that love

....

Say a word, man
A joyful one
Run, send a message
Hold me
Make a sweet vibe
Make me bristle
Stop gasping
Make me crazy
Make me a diamond
Your lover
Dance to the sound of wind
Stop gasping
Don't play

I wrote and self-produced a Halloween album. Went with the DIY method and made it in my spare bedroom. Even though I really don't know much about production. Just felt like putting something out in the universe for the season. Here's the link. It's totally free to listen to if you want to. At 6 tracks and a total of 15 minutes, it's probably closer to an "EP" but I'm calling it an album. Because why not. Here's the link:

Such an amazing day for Brazil, and yet Erasmo Carlos couldn’t live to see it. RIP. One of the most under appreciated Brazilian musicians.

New Noel Gallagher single and album announcement expected in about an hour. Rumour is the song is called Pretty Boy. Clips on his socials sound a bit like the Cure. Could be interesting.

So this was a bad report I read last night - he is still alive (though in the hospital)!

Hello Interference Fam.

I don't know about any of you, but, I am really digging this new Alvvays a lot. I also loved the new Beth Orton album but I've been a fan of hers forever so the bias is strong. She and her voice are aging wonderfully to my ears. Been listening to Angel Olsen a lot lately, too. Also, Scott Walker popped up on my iTunes out of nowhere the other day and I could not stop laughing. Lastly, as it pertains to music, I am probably here because I was listening to the remastered Revolver the other day. Or maybe it's seeing a bunch of articles lately about Bono's book, which I doubt I will read but still.

The new Cormac McCarthy is patiently waiting for me to finish what I'm currently reading so I can see what's up. I am sure his fastball is not what it was but even if he's got 75% of his old literary power, it's going to be a great read. What a giant.

I really enjoyed House of the Dragon. I was massively disappointed with The Rings of Power. I am loving Andor.

For the past year, whenever I feel a bit down or a lot down, and I don't want to listen to music but I do want to watch something and not think too hard, I rewatch the 2021 version of Dune. Why that works I do not know but, it typically does. I love Dune too much. I want to see Tar when the World Series is over.

I started flying domestically recently and that's sort of broken the seal on my desire to explore more of the world again. I've been binge watching episodes of "Mighty Cruise Ships" despite never having been on a cruise, so that feels aspirational, which pleases me. I hope to get to Europe in 2023. As for 2022 travel, I was just back East for two weeks, splitting time between NYC and Philly, attending various NLCS/ALCS/World Series games. Got home last night just in time for first pitch of Game 5. It was a tiring trip but fun and productive too. I'd not spent extended time in Philly before and I enjoyed it. I stayed near City Hall which I enjoyed, and we could easily walk to the Reading Terminal Market for lunch, which was fun, albeit crowded. I am sure my stay was enhanced by the fact that the city is buzzing due to the Phillies and Eagles and maybe even a little bit due to the Union, who are set to play in the MLS Cup tomorrow. Also saw some Fall foliage, which I always enjoy.

In lieu of the Bronx Bombers advancing, go Phillies........
