Devastating injury to such a star, but holy shit that led to one of the most beautiful sporting moments I've ever witnessed. Already feels iconic. Feel like we'll be speaking about that moment for a very, very long time.

That's only the 11th time Brisbane and Gold Coast have both won in the same round, nine years into Gold Coast's existence.

Essendon looking as bad as the drug suspension year, but without suspensions to justify it.

Very strange. Still, been an exciting season so far. Some great results, a lot of teams looking more competitive than we thought they'd be, which is promising.

Cracking finishes to both games today.

And wow I cannot get over Essendon the last two weeks. Both weeks I've said that I'll be happy if we just lose by less than 30, and here we are with two victories. Brisbane looked as awful as people actually expected them to be, rather than the surprisingly good club they were in the first three rounds.

And, huh, four rounds into the year and already every team has lost at least one game.

Every team has also won at least one game... except Carlton.

I would feel bad for you, Traviud, but we *did* warn you about Carlton.

I think Carlton are playing better than they were last year. Unfortunately for the Blues I think a lot of teams are.

Going to be annoying because Bolton will cop all the heat, not the players.

Any win is a good win for us at this point, but we really took it to the Dogs this round. Nice to see all of the positive signs manifest in a dominant win.

The unpredictability every week continues to be one of my favourite things.

Starting to wonder whether this decade will feature more Australian prime ministers knifed, or Carlton coaches.

Starting to expect that Eddie will kick every contender for goal of the year.

It is a fascinating season so far...

1st placed Geelong dominated the season early on seemingly by default, now they look vulnerable
2nd placed Brisbane are everyone's second team for their exciting play and underdog status after not playing finals since 2009, and only second time in 15 years after their golden era
3rd placed West Coast have won most of their games while looking a little shaky but know they can get the job done when it counts
4th placed Collingwood and 5th placed Richmond playing on Friday night will tell us a lot about what direction both teams should go in this last month before finals
6th placed Greater Western Sydney are a bit all over the place and will retain the 'can't win in Melbourne' tag until they can win at the MCG in a final
7th placed Essendon are playing with a level of skill and confindence and grinding out close games I haven't seen for quite a while with a lot of their key players out, almost parallel to Brisbane in lack of finals success over the last 15 years, having not won a final since 2004
8th placed Adelaide are a game clear of 4-6 teams competing for that last spot in the Eight holding on for dear life

2018: 15th, 5-17, 89.1%, 20pts
2019: 1st, 16-5, 120.9%, 64pts

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this in any sport, ever.

I would argue that is partly because, unlike the bulk of American sport (and soccer FWIW), AFL has a much fairer and regenerative system. It is designed so that the same teams don't stay at the top year-in, year-out.

I also think the Lions had a better year last year than it looked - the percentage tells you that. Five losses under 10 points. They win those and it's 10-12.

Either way, I'm stoked. They have lit up what has otherwise been a bit of staid season at times with a really exciting brand of footy and I genuinely think they can go all the way. I think West Coast and Richmond are probably the best two teams in it, with us, Collingwood and Brisbane in the next bracket.

Awesome round of footy. 1v2 and 3v4 were tremendously good games, and the Dogs being back in scintillating touch for the first time in three years brings me a lot of joy.
