For Laz and anyone else who likes the band: I've recently started going through Saint Etienne's discography in order.

Never having heard much of their music outside of DI lists, I was surprised to hear that Foxbase Alpha had some Ibiza house vibes. A bit long and sonically inconsistent, but it's straight feelgood music. I listened to the US version which had a couple extra tracks and maybe that was just a bit too much for a first listen. Pleasant surprise nonetheless.

So Tough is fucking good. A little trimmer, a little darker, a little more focused, more of an "album" instead of a never-ending house wormhole. I was really impressed by the sampling (two tracks in a row borrowed samples from Paul's Boutique, which I'm guessing was an influence on the album) and they integrated it well throughout the album instead of just in select pockets. It really informed the feel of the record. But despite all the consistency and sonic creativity, the songwriting was there too. Great stuff.

Tiger Bay is up next.

Big Star Third live was not free for me :grumpy:.
sorry  probably one of the few benefits to living in memphis.

i've also met jody stephens, but

As someone who could be said to be a casual Big Star fan (if they exist?) the documentary was so great. I get why the band is revered so much now.

(And of course NOW I find out they did the Third show here last year and I wasn't even aware of it. I missed out on seeing Mike Mills and Jody Stephens on the same stage?! Damnit!)
oh yeah, i would definitely consider myself a casual fan. i've got the albums (well, the main three at least, never tried to get into their 90s reunion stuff), i listen to them and love them, but i feel like i don't listen to them enough or anything to consider myself some huge fan.

and every time i make a drive on a particular route, i drive past a now-shuttered (i think, at least) big star supermarket. i get a kick out of it because i'm such a dork.

But, speaking of Cyndi Lauper, you know what I REALLY love?

yeah, i like that one too. at least as far as her hits go - i've never really delved into anything other than her greatest hits - it's probably one of my favourites. i guess because it's so different for her. girls just wanna have fun...i don't hate it, but i'm definitely sick of hearing it.

Seriously, don't bother. There's no deeply hidden Cyndi Lauper gem out there that you're missing out on.

Not that you have narrow taste to begin with, but it's refreshing to see someone delving into this genre/period. It doesn't get explored by enough people.

The band is so damn good, and their evolution/progression is interesting to follow, with no jarring moves but some interesting turns.

They really don't have a bad album.

One word of advice: when you get to Good Humor (IMO their best), try to get the full-length bonus disc that came with it, titled Fairfax High. It's not as consistent as the album proper, but its peaks are just as good.

I hate making choices when it comes to restaurants. I've never been to Coffee Bean before and I'm supposed to put my order in for work and the answer to what I want to order has literally been bothering me for hours now. #firstworldproblems

But work's getting it. I could just get a coffee any ole time. :shifty:.

I got a caramel cappuccino. I have no idea if that was dumb. Oh well. I'll either enjoy it or I won't, but hopefully I got that order in on time.

I know you were all worried about me. I'll try to keep you updated on the progress.

Looks like it's random coffee talk time again.

Black coffee or GTFO.

I  Coffee Bean. My go to is their dark chocolate iced latte. It's delicious.

There's like some slowed down version of one being played on cellos n shit playing at the Barnes and noble I'm at right now. Oh wait a violin just came in and did the high harmonic dningdning di dning part at the end.

Damn. That sounds good.

It really is delicious.

Oh and say what you will about the Foo Fighters, but you can't fault them for this. Dave Grohl fell off the stage today in Sweden. He broke his leg but after a short break to get it wrapped up, went back up on stage and finished the gig sitting down. Seriously.
