Hey everyone -

I have GA tickets for a few of the NYC shows in July...
Dan

Hate to say it dude, but unfortunately some of the worst offenders of this shit are NYC locals, some of whom were at the West Coast shows. I really hope the rest of the NY fanbase rises up and calls BS on these suckers - please post on YouTube for the rest of us. :applaud::applaud:

I too am tired of the same old, same old people getting on stage. But the band obviously doesn't care because they keep pulling the same fucktards on stage... *shrug*

I met Bono for my first time, after a lot of hard work of walking around Rogers arena, and a lot of determination. The moment when I met him, most of the line nazi idiots who monopolize the band's time every time they come out, as if they are all old friends, were at @U2's party. Universal justice!!

We had a nice, relaxed crowd and Bono got to converse with all of us individually.

So Friday during the day, I happened to be walking by the same entrance where the band comes in on my way to the hotel... And Bono was out there again. And you know what?! I didnt stop!!

I thought, "I had my great moment with Bono... I'm going to let other people have a turn."

Can you believe that I just walked on?? (Not saying that I am never going to try to meet the band again... Still would like a moment with Edge and Adam, and Larry only if he's in a good mood.)

Also. Been on the rail in E. Lansing on 360, right in front of Bono's mic. That was another venue where none of the usual Nazis were there... So NEW people got to be in the front. It was the best experience of my life. Yes, I would love that to happen again some time. But you know what? If I was with someone who I knew had never been on the rail in a position like that, I would give it to them. Why? Cuz I dont NEED to be on the rail EVERY FREAKING TIME.

2-3 rows back, which you can get without even waiting in line all day, is still great.

And, as I learned in Moncton, sometimes being right in the middle of the pit is wonderful too.

My enjoyment of U2 music is not dependent on my being on the rail. And I think it is for some of these people. They've lost touch on what is really important about U2 music... maybe even what they really love... They've become Rail Divas, begging for the attention of the band. "Notice me, Bono! NOTICE ME!!" is what they scream. The show isnt about U2 anymore; it's about them.

I feel sorry for you folks.

If they make any attempt to enforce a line system at the bar I'll get right on that

Good karma to you!

I had about a 6year gap since my last attempt to meet anyone from the band. I've already decided I never need to meet Larry ever again, I couldn't ask for anything more. He wasn't grumpy and I got a pic. I definitely don't want to go down the comparison road if I tried and successfully met him again.

I don't mean to sound sore but from pictures and videos I've seen from earlier shows this tour, I saw many familiar faces that already got lucky meeting the band but were trying to meet the band again in LA and I was a little bummed, but I waited and eventually called it a day after a while. I did get to shake Edge's hand on Saturday and it was a thrill! I've never seen him in front of me before. If this turns out to be my only interaction with him, I'll be a happy woman. Like lightning waltz said, I'm not saying I'll never try again, but maybe next leg if they're in town and I have a day off.

I think it was Lazarus who mentioned in an earlier post that for some, several pictures with the band or several autographs will never be enough. :(

I don't even understand why it's like this thing that MUST happen or else you're incomplete. I wanted to meet the band back in 2006 but these days I wouldn't spend a second trying to meet them. What are you going to get? A half-second photo and autograph with someone who doesn't really want to be there, won't say anything beyond hi and thank you, and then forget about you two seconds later?

In my travels and in my profession I've met/interviewed a few famous people. One time I was even drinking in the hotel bar with the E Street Band; I was seconds/metres away from meeting Bruce but it didn't eventuate because some crazy woman took over. He walked off in the other direction. But I'd much rather have been just some dude having a drink with the percussionist and coolly taking everything in than an annoying dickhead who forced himself into a situation that didn't make anyone happy but myself. I just don't really get it

During the Elevation Tour, I was an 18-19 year old, and my friend and I waited outside the Joyce Center in Notre Dame for the band to come in. They never came in, they didn't do soundcheck that afternoon (apparently they had the day before). It was pretty cold that crisp October day, and we both had horrible colds/coughs that began forming during the concert, and got worse over the next few days. I learned my lesson, and never tried to meet any of the band again.

After East Lansing in 2011 I actually did give Adam a "five". My wife and I, and a small collection of other stragglers were walking to our cars, and suddenly these cars containing the band members pulled out. The other 3 had their windows closed, but Adam had his window open and his head half hanging out. Somebody yelled "LOOK! IT'S ADAM!" I was a couple feet from the car, and without thinking I just held out my hand, and Adam slapped me a "five" as his car slowly went by. Cool little moment, and probably the closest I will ever come to meet them.

I was at the merchandise booth in front of Sun Life Stadium for the Miami 360º show when the motorcade arrived, just a few steps from where I was. I thought they had arrived earlier, as it was almost 6 PM, so you could imagine how thrilled I was. One of the cars' windows came down, and it was Bono. I waved, he noticed and gave me the peace sign. I would love to meet them, but I'll be fine if I don't. I got to see them live, that's all that matters.

You know, it's funny... after my first U2 show in the upper level section back in 2005, I swore that I would only do GA from then on. At my three 360 shows, I had rail every time, including dead center in front of Bono for Minneapolis. This past Saturday, I had a very good lower level seat for LA 3y, and I would look down at the GA crowd and think about how there really wasn't a bad place to stand on the entire floor. Besides thinking that I could actually be open to seats again in the future, it made me realize that lining up all day for that extra few feet really isn't a necessity. Even though I might still do it anyway for the experience and all, I'm actually open to showing up to one of my GA shows closer to when doors open (or, better yet, having a lower level seat in the future).

I don't mean to sound sore but from pictures and videos I've seen from earlier shows this tour, I saw many familiar faces that already got lucky meeting the band but were trying to meet the band again in LA and I was a little bummed, but I waited and eventually called it a day after a while. You were there on Saturday too, huh? I was one of the first to shake hands with Edge and somehow managed to take a photo with the both of us in it, haha. It was actually my first time truly meeting one of the guys, aside from some brief stage glances during the 360 shows (if those even count). Nevertheless, it was really nice of him to come out and say hello that afternoon! I'm glad it went great for you as well.

So since we are talking about these "rail nazis" who exactly are they? Are they on this board, or are they more on the @u2 site? I mean I assume Romi is one, but im curious who else is one? I'd love to hear their thoughts behind why they do what they do. Or do we not name and shame? ha! I guess its because people keeping saying 'the group of BIG fans etc' and being from Australia, i don't know any big fans in Australia except Axver ;)

The missing piece that would make this thread a classic is a wave of line nazis striking back. This debate has been pretty one-sided so far, honestly.

They must be hiding under an overpass somewhere.

I want to hear from them, I really do.

Maybe, like the argument against same-sex marriage, I'm missing a crucial point that will change my mind.

I have always found it a bit surprising that these people who take such a lead role in trying to organise lines and establish their own little concert fiefdom are, by and large, remarkably quiet or even absent from the online fan community. Not everybody digs the whole forum experience (especially not now that forums are an aging and decaying phenomenon), but you'd expect at least some to be vocal participants.

I definitely think it's surprising there have not been more coming forward to present their views in this thread, given those who have posted clearly think they're doing the fanbase a service and a favour. Obviously people want to avoid being piled on, but in the earlier stages there was plenty of room for robust debate and even now there are some very big questions that deserve to be addressed.

I'm surprised nobody has yet chirped up to qualify "big fan" in this sentence.

MELBOURNE FUCKYEAH.

LA4 we were 1 person off the rail at the B stage and the regulars already had the places staked out..we very congenially sat down and tried to say hi how ya doing that sort of thing. I swear to God this is what one of the girls said back..."What number where you in line?" Not Hi, not anything, not even a smile from her turned up nose... I wish I would have just said fuck off...but I just ignored her...and then proceeded to have the best show:D

OH...and the people that leave the show early before it is over so they can go get in line for the next days gig and get a low number!!!???!! WTF??? I mean that is the most fucked up thing I have ever heard (and witnessed)

I dont think any of them do that. And they dont have to because they put their number down on the list before they entered, thus securing their spot for the next night before they've even gone to the first night.

I saw the beginnings of all this line stuff when I did GA for most of Elevation. The line was still pretty fun for the most part then, but it started to change on the 3rd leg of Elevation and the infamous Boston protest (ridiculous on many levels incl. both fans the band). Glad I haven't done it since and do not plan to. Sounds like it is a bit out of hand now. Easily solved, U2 needs to take charge and use the lottery wristband system Bruce uses. Solves the whole thing. But they wont. It's U2 ;)

Did they not do this during vertigo? Or is this a different system?

Vertigo had the "random" lottery scanning folks inside the ellipse. So there were lineups (in Boston they handed out wristbands and had you return to line up at 5:00 or so like they've done in LA and SJ this tour), but being in the front of those lines only guaranteed you a spot on the outer rail of the ellipse (unless say you had a child with you or knew the tour folks running the "random" scanners then you were guaranteed "random" entry inside the ellipse.)

And about them being in the fan community. They love to keep this shit verrrrrry quiet. They don't want rival lines forming, so you literally have to troll around the venues days before the show and hopefully 'find' them. When called out they are doing 'the fans' a service. However, 'the fans' include them and their friends, not us other chumps, unless we're lucky enough to 'find' their line.

It's been done many times, unfortunately.
