I think you guys are onto something. Since Larry's the one who makes the real important decisions, is it possible he's directed this as a concept album regarding the current gay rights struggle in the U.S. and around the world? He's already been vocally appreciative of his gay fanbase, so perhaps he wanted to return the sentiment?

1. Skyline
Ok, this is similar to "when I look at the world". The narrator sees the big city in the distance. He thinks about all the different kinds of people living there, how they have different beliefs, sexualities, ideas, etc. Kind of setting the stage.

2. Every Breaking Wave
The unceasing determination of the gay rights movement. As the decades pass, its fearless soldiers break upon the beach of society and try to create harmony between the fluidity of the water and the slowly eroding landscape of outdated tradition and dogma.

3. World Press II
Bono's efforts to reduce the spread of and find a cure for AIDS is tied into the central topic.

4. Everybody Knows Who I Like
Bono writing in character, as one of those men whose friends, coworkers, and family suspect is gay, but he hasn't come to terms with it or come out to anyone yet.

5. North Star
Most of us already agree this song is totally gay.

6. Black Pictures
A focus on censorship and how Hollywood tends to "black out" gay relationships in most films, and how screenwriters and directors are often prevented from putting these stories on the screen.

7. Morleigh's Song
The Edge's long-awaited return to lead vocals, as he imagines an alternate life where he realizes his true sexuality in middle age, and must share the truth with his wife, who is ultimately compassionate about his awakening. Compassion through understanding.

8. You
Continuing with that thought, Bono asks the listener to consider: what if you were gay? How would you feel if your rights were infringed upon, or knowing that so many around the world hate you simply because of who you are. A lesson in identification and empathy.

9. Nobody Island
The loneliness that many in the closet experience when they don't feel they have anyone to talk to about their sexual identity. Similar to "Stuck In A Moment", in that it contemplates someone at the end of his rope, with with a small ray of optimism near the end.

10. Fresh 'n Furious
Little explanation is needed here, but Bono is exploring the gay nightlife with the same excitement and reckless abandon he brought to Discotheque and Vertigo. Rumor has it that the band brings back the "BOOM-CHA" on this one.

11. Earth 2030
At last, the vision of a world in the not-too-distant future where ANYONE can get married ANYWHERE, and equal rights are truly held by all. Are we up to the challenge? Is 17 years enough time for sweeping change? Bono believes it is, and believes in us the audience, to will it into reality.

"Irish rockers U2 were in celebratory form over the weekend after putting the finishing touches to their new album. The band, who recorded their latest offering in New York, threw a star studded bash at the Electric Lady Studios in Manhattan where guests were treated to a rooftop barbecue. Familiar faces at the sky-high party included former supermodel Helena Christiansen and The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas. The bands manager Paul McGuinness also joined in the fun. Bono and co are believed to have left the Big Apple the very next day to enjoy some down time possibly in their homes in the South of France. But despite marking the completion of the new record, the band are still shying away from answering rumours of gigs at Dublin's O2 next year to showcase their new material. Now wouldn't that be a Beautiful Day."

From TVe

Beach clips again, maybe?

It cracks me up when the first leaks are always instrumentals.

You know your shit. Take a listen to it. It's curious. If it's a fake it's the best sounding U2 fake I've ever heard. They have Edge's tendencies down pat. Larry's as well.

To me it sounds like a bar band that's inspired by U2 trying to get some folks to listen to them.

A couple of dead giveaways:

1. the guy who posted it just signed up, that's usually a pretty good sign
2. ask yourself why U2 would be playing an instrumental in front of people? This is NOT the type of instrumental they would put on an album.
3. the song titles are fakes. I'm 99.7% sure that with the exception of the song titles we already know, the rest are fake. So why sell a fake instrumental under a fake title?

These people should try harder.

Sounds like U2 to me. If it's a bar band promoting themselves, I have no idea who they are. So, what was the point? I have no idea who they are.

What band do I search for? Promo fail.

When I was playing in a band every single studio playback included an instrumental section, so the engineer could get levels right. Bass drum, high-hat, etc. Vocals layered on last.

I don't really give the sign-up thing credence. This place and ATU2 are supposed to be the premiere U2 web spots, but nobody who ever experiences these studio playback thingys is ever a regular poster on either board. These boards represent a insignificant number of U2 fans.

And the titles are all BS.

Everyone and his mother has a smart phone capable of recording this stuff.

It might be fake. Totally fake. But, if it is fake, it's the best sounding U2 fake I've ever heard.

Or they're not telling. Seems to me that playback thingys are kind of a fight club.

Totally possible. Can't imagine any of the douches here holding that back. That's major bragging. I wouldn't hold that back. It's not like someone is going to be blacklisted from another playback in the future. Who'd hold onto that? How many people here hang in Dublin, NYC, France? This forum is full of poor people.

Here it is: U2 2012 new unpublic song - YouTube
Fake!
Weird that somebody distorted the audio quality here in the new file and cut it. Why do people go to such lengths to tease foaming at the mouth online U2 fans? Sheesh.

Well, there ya go. I dug that. Who did it? I'd listen to more of them.

And you only have 2 posts. Which means you can't be trusted. Are you Edge? This place digs being faked out.

Good find! Posted in Jan 2012 so definitely didn't match the story the guy told on AtU2.

Yeah I'd say "as if" is the appropriate mocking response to the "promo CD" photo.

LOL, suckers.

So you are calling me a sucker ? I try to add some input in the forum discussion, my personal opinion.... who the fuck are you bitch ?

Feel free to report this post, I won't be harrassed in a public forum where opinions are accepted and open for discussion

That music from the clip posted here could by by anyone, seriously, it could be U2 or any other band. It's just someone jamming. It's hard to tell because you don't have vocals. The vocals, even someone trying very hard to sound like Bono, usually give it away.

And the whole "rooftop party" thing could be true, but I very much doubt they played the new album blasting from a Manhattan roof top, there would have been more than just a few illustrious guests who would have heard the album and believe me, comments about it would be all over the internet now. I believe there might have been a small private listening party, maybe with people just hearing segments of songs, but certainly not an unreleased album blasting on a rooftop during a barbecue party.

U2 obviously have become so so much more cautious this time, there's a reason why non of the potential sources has been able to give away any real details about the album or any of the songs. All we have are ridiculous fake setlists and song titles floating around and general statements about the album by various people, but nothing that seems to be really substantial.

Maybe U2 and everyone else is fooling the world and there isn't an album after all
