We are going to be a U2 forum laughing stock if we carry on like this. :reject:

I just can't bring myself to think that anybody believed that tracklist for one second, unless I'm being whoooooosed, of course.

:|

So the photo of the fake tracklist was brought to the attention of Bean from Kevin and Bean (KROQ Morning Show). He tweeted Steve Lillywhite and this is the response:

Yeah I'd say "as if" is the appropriate mocking response to the "promo CD" photo.

I think that tracklist could be legit, maybe... though it does look a bit odd. UMG does own Island, Interscope and Mercury, these advance test pressings have gone out before, I have seen very similar copies for ATYCLB, HTDAAB and NLOTH usually about 2 months before release with the promo sheets.

If there was actual listening parties, and many have confirmed there were. Promo track sheets would have been labeled for reaction to actual tracks. The track names may not be finalized or just working titles, but the inclusion of North Star and Every Breaking Wave makes sense.

This thread smells of people trying to convince themselves the tracklisting is fake but in the backs of their minds knowing there are good odds it's at least somewhat accurate.

LOL, suckers.

That anyone believed that track listing baffles the mind... but at the same time, considering it's interference, is incredibly believable.

And on that... if there was a massive roof top listening party with all sorts of record execs and friends and jay-z... with all the people who've been hanging out around the studios during the week... considering the studio is on the small side and only has one entrance... don't you think somebody might have, ya know, seen some of this go down?

The only facts we have is that u2 have been with danger mouse on and off over the past month or so in the West Village... have appeared to have packed up and left twice now... that two persistent fans were allowed inside for a very brief listen... and that bono has been getting his hair cut in Williamsburg.

That is all.

Not sure what you mean. Lots of people saw lots of these people (Jimmy I, Jay-Z...) at the studio Friday night. There are pictures all over FB. Whether it was an actual listening party or just a party with friends is a different question, but there is no question there was a big party last Friday night. Plenty of witnesses.

this very well may have been just a party me thinks.

That's ultimately the point Headache is getting at, tho. If all these people had actually been played new music, someone would have let somethjng slip out on Twitter. They didn't crack down on Lanois or Lillywhite for saying anything, so Jay-Z could easily have commented casually on what he heard, for example.

Right. I basically swatted the troll early on but...somehow people chose to ignore it. I can't imagine why it went unnoticed and things got out of hand...

Further tidbits (different source):

Track listing was in fact set last night.

Earth 2030 is an actual song. Most likely a b-side or bonus

This is being relayed to me by a very trusted friend who is hearing it from a friend who works at Electric Lady

Edit: I cannot vouch for the track listing but it matches what was published earlier tonite. Take that for what you will

Maybe "Earth 2030" is a real song but...it's more than hard to believe at this point. Furthermore, what would that say about his 'second source'. Probably just a dude that read the original trolling on the internet. You have to ask yourself, how could that troll POSSIBLY have gotten a song title correct? Sorry GVox, this is dubious at best on a few levels.

Blazed McGuinness inadvertently confirms partial fake tracklisting
With one hand shoving pizza into his hearty mouth and the other one desperately ravaging the bottom of a bag of potato chips, U2's longtime manager might have just let the biggeset secret in the music world out of the closet while searching for his blunt. "MANHATTAN" he bellows, when asked where the band were recording with Danger Mouse. Hmmm, I see. Do you have any insight to what the theme of the upcoming album will be? "MANHATTAN", he barks again, looking for his bag and some papers. Okay, let me try this a different way, can you confirm if the Edge will be singing lead vocals on a track titled 'Morleigh's song'? McGuinness looks stunned for a moment, eyes tanking red, chip crumbs falling from his open mouth, "Bloody hell, did Bono lose the :censored: promo disk again? :censored: ME!" (rummaging through loose papers on couch) His eyes trail off into the distance as he wipes greasy hands onto his sleeveless tshirt, "Oh! Sacred heart of Malibu, leaves in the wind, that's Edge's song." As McGuinness finally found what he was looking for underneath a pile of dirty laundry on the couch, I decide to ask him again So the theme of the album is Manhattan? "Oh heavens no, its about the Crusades, the mother of civilization, Black Pictures, the value of extreme torture, and poontang" So let me get this straight....they wrote an album about Poontang? McGuiness breathes in and coughs for a few minutes. When he's able to gain his composure he's in a much better mood, smiling, laughing, and very very relaxed. Poontang?, I say again. He winks at me with that familiar all knowing smile "Maybe.....we'll see...........Everybody knows who I like!"

Which is exactly what I said: that because it matched what looked to be a troll as you pointed out, that it was highly suspect.

And then clarified again.

And again.

And again now.

So I'm not sure what it is you're saying: you're preaching to the choir here.

I bet the new album will be "10 reasons to exist in Manhattan: Songs of Ascent". Trust me.

Ok, talking serious now: a site domain can be tracked by the owner's name? Or we could just search with the website's name? We're already in July, if they release something in september like it was said, maybe we could have some clue, like the HTDAAB one?

Can someone please post this pic of the supposed leaked track list? I don't have the stomach to go back and look for it, but I'm not quite sure which imaginary fake list is being argued about.

So now we need some new fake news to get us through the next week without boredom setting in.

I hear that U2's new album will be called The BROnx.

Haven't seen any of the pictures, and assumed they would have been posted here... so if that's true, then I take that part of it back.

Best thing I've seen posted here. Makes this thread worthwhile.

New York's hottest club is...

MANhattan!

stefan.jpg

It's going to be their gayest album since Boy!

:hyper:

I think you guys are onto something. Since Larry's the one who makes the real important decisions, is it possible he's directed this as a concept album regarding the current gay rights struggle in the U.S. and around the world? He's already been vocally appreciative of his gay fanbase, so perhaps he wanted to return the sentiment?

1. Skyline
Ok, this is similar to "when I look at the world". The narrator sees the big city in the distance. He thinks about all the different kinds of people living there, how they have different beliefs, sexualities, ideas, etc. Kind of setting the stage.

2. Every Breaking Wave
The unceasing determination of the gay rights movement. As the decades pass, its fearless soldiers break upon the beach of society and try to create harmony between the fluidity of the water and the slowly eroding landscape of outdated tradition and dogma.

3. World Press II
Bono's efforts to reduce the spread of and find a cure for AIDS is tied into the central topic.

4. Everybody Knows Who I Like
Bono writing in character, as one of those men whose friends, coworkers, and family suspect is gay, but he hasn't come to terms with it or come out to anyone yet.

5. North Star
Most of us already agree this song is totally gay.

6. Black Pictures
A focus on censorship and how Hollywood tends to "black out" gay relationships in most films, and how screenwriters and directors are often prevented from putting these stories on the screen.

7. Morleigh's Song
The Edge's long-awaited return to lead vocals, as he imagines an alternate life where he realizes his true sexuality in middle age, and must share the truth with his wife, who is ultimately compassionate about his awakening. Compassion through understanding.

8. You
Continuing with that thought, Bono asks the listener to consider: what if you were gay? How would you feel if your rights were infringed upon, or knowing that so many around the world hate you simply because of who you are. A lesson in identification and empathy.

9. Nobody Island
The loneliness that many in the closet experience when they don't feel they have anyone to talk to about their sexual identity. Similar to "Stuck In A Moment", in that it contemplates someone at the end of his rope, with with a small ray of optimism near the end.

10. Fresh 'n Furious
Little explanation is needed here, but Bono is exploring the gay nightlife with the same excitement and reckless abandon he brought to Discotheque and Vertigo. Rumor has it that the band brings back the "BOOM-CHA" on this one.

11. Earth 2030
At last, the vision of a world in the not-too-distant future where ANYONE can get married ANYWHERE, and equal rights are truly held by all. Are we up to the challenge? Is 17 years enough time for sweeping change? Bono believes it is, and believes in us the audience, to will it into reality.

Well they have recently spent quite a bit of time in NY and Danger Mouse is a NY based producer so who knows... I don't think the title is that far fetched actually..
