Punk Island better have at least 60 songs on it.

I plan on using songs no longer than 3 minutes, so I'm shooting for 50 songs, give or take. If I can squeeze 60 on there, it will be the greatest accomplishment of my life.

I've been making a playlist in my iTunes of all the albums I need to go through for Punk Island. A through R = 1791 songs = 121 albums = approx 84 hours of music. :crack:

I did not ever see Tears for Fears live. They've never done it for me.

My first concert actually. Albeit the 90's version of Tears For Fears (minus Curt Smith). Abravanel Hall, SLC, 1996. They were touring the album 'Raoul and the Kings of Spain'.

Nice. I've badly wanted to see DJ Shadow forever, just one of those acts where every.single.time for some reason it hasn't been workable. Even just recently, he was at Glastonbury, but on at the same time as this up and coming Irish quartet I felt I needed to check out. Really annoying.

DJ Shadow's lights didn't work properly because Pitchfork simply had to make Fleet Foxes the headliner, so I missed out on that aspect of his live show. Musically? Fan-fucking-tastic, of course. The guy seemed to be having a blast creating his beats and getting the crowd pumped up, exhibiting a proactive approach to DJing that most people don't expect from them; he was anything but lying back, pressing a button or flipping a switch once in a while as he waved one arm in the air. No, the man was creating kickass beats for us to party to, but it felt more like a true live performance than I expected.

And, had the lights worked, we wouldn't have gotten that view instead, so it all worked out, really.

you have awesome taste in music.

just saying.

Thank you Ms. Rhodes! :)

I assume you remember me previously stating my fondness for another British band

Duran Duran

which may have influenced what you just said

At the venue. Neon Trees are playing here in three days haha. That really encapsulates the spectrum of your tastes doesn't it scumbo
at first i thought you were queuing up three days early for that gig, then i remembered you weren't american.

ha, how'd you guess!

Thanks for the advice, gang. I'll go ahead and peruse the registry a little more and find something else in the $25-30 range. Seems appropriate.

Already hooked up with the MOH in the past, so the possibilities are endless.

So I'm back from Moncton, guys. What a great experience and I got to meet Corianderstem (briefly) and Jive Turkey, too, who managed to get off Toronto Island for the show.

I'll expand on this further later, but this was my GA swan song, and one of the major reasons why is having to deal with the annoying, elitist, entitled so-called "superfans" who complain about everything if it doesn't go their way. It is absolutely maddening and, in my opinion, gives us sane U2 fans a bad reputation to the outside world. I'm not even going into the Moncton threads over in The Other Place, for fear of what I might say to people.

I just started an epic BOOOOO! at Bomac :hyper:

He ruined our beach ball fun by throwing it away into the pit. I booed loudly and about 30 others followed suit

GFY. You're no better in my eyes than Elfa now.

Are you like, dead serious? Because this is hilarious.

Oh it happened, but wasn't hilarious from my end.
That is epic. :lmao:

Not really.

It was.

It actually happened

I'm a few people behind him. I dont think he knows that I started it

I knew, but only because you told me.

You're a wanker bomac!

Takes one to know one.

If I incite mob hatred against BoMac can I get in on this, too?

Try and I'll fight all of you.

That sounds vile - sorry that you had to experience it. As I much as I love the energy in GA, I really dislike the queuing experience. Perhaps that's why I do not care for flying on Southwest, either.

I likened my first flight on Southwest to a U2 GA line. I got yelled at by an old woman who thought I cut her husband when in reality she had stepped in front of me (and in the end, it really did not matter because we all had seats). She had "crazy U2 fan" in her eyes.

It was a minor nuisance in an otherwise fun (though mud filled) weekend. I didnt dwell on it too much despite my distain for them. The schadenfreude i felt as they sort of massed everyone from ga into 8 or 9 different gates was quite satisfying, I must say. At that point, 1st in line to 40th in line were pretty much equal

It was nice to meet you JT. After hearing the "boos" after the demise of the smiley face beach ball - I am glad I did not get to meet Bomac. What a downer.

It was funny - when they pushed us all into that queue, I am pretty sure Cori, Schmeg and I had a better entry location than others that had been in line since 6:00am. We ended up in our usual spot on the side of the stage and had a blast.

I did not lose my hearing until they played Out of Control and Cori started squealing. I thought she was going to explode.

Unfortunately, the post-show suffering (shoving 78,000 people through an exit that was made for 150 people leaving a zoo and a water park) may be a bit more memorable than the show itself. Hopefully not.

"superfans"

One of my favorite parts of the show: Bono was walking around and he read one of the signs (I HATE all of the sign making crap that goes on) in the front of the pit. It reads something like "This is my 25th show on this tour" - Bono says "25 shows this tour? Yeah....me too." I kind of took it as a "GFY" moment.

Of course, he played into the whole thing later asking people how many shows they had seen on the tour.

Oh, but I think you should...I just read about the Vik fiasco.

I like Southwest. :(

I am shocked.

I wonder how many shows the French girl who got shoved out of the way had seen.

Just called in sick to work for the first time in like 10+ years.

My view was always that if I was going to feel like shit all day, I may as well be getting paid for it, instead of sitting around miserably at home and losing money. But I've got some neck/shoulder/arm pain and the thought of getting in my car right now seems like a recipe for disaster.

My my my. What a gig. What a guy. Just makes me hate club DJs even more.\

I got front rail, just to the left of Shadow, despite not lining up for a week and not being on the complete and total fuckwit list, and decided not to do the "paper dolls".

I should mention first up that this was $50 - he played last night for $70 - and the ticket price also included an hour-long Q&A session, a full DJ set, an exclusive vinyl of what must be a new single and then an autograph session afterwards. For $50 bucks. What a legend.

Here's the vinyl, "Sad and Lonely", b/w "(Not So) Sad and Lonely"

Here's my now-even-more-awesome copy of the deluxe Excessive Ephemera edition of Endtroducing:

And here's a great poster.

The Q&A was pretty good, though the dude asking questions (from some music mag) was a bit ordinary and someone in the crowd yelled out, "pass the mic!" I'd already thought of my question earlier in the day, so I was first up, and I asked, "if you thought hip hop sucked in '96, what do you think of it in 2011?" And he pretty much said to each their own, but that it's too commercial, and that the golden age is long past us ("but I remember talking about this with Prince Paul and he said the golden age ended in 1990"). Then he went off stage as the crew set up.

He is performing inside this orb thing, with a screen behind it. They project images and video on the orb and screen throughout the show, and it's fucking amazing to watch. Shadow plays from inside, and occasionally spins the orb round to reveal himself. Visuals were as impressive as a Chem Bros. show.

The tracks that he dropped that I recognised were Building Steam With a Grain of Salt, the deep "oh yeah/oh yeah"s from What Does Your Soul Look Like pt 4, The Number Song (closer to the Cut Chemist Remix below), What Does Your Soul Look Like pt 1, Stem and Organ Donor - which was fucking insane. I listed it as my least favourite track in, funnily enough, The List Thread, but it was a fucking monster and it's one of his most popular tracks - it got the biggest reaction. I had no idea it was so huge. The highlight for me was a track I didn't know, called High Noon.

Waited around for probably 45 minutes to meet him and get stuff signed, and chatted with some of the blokes around me. Met a Japanese guy (who, despite being here more than 12 years still has a distinctly Japanese accent) who was awesome and had great taste in music (spewing I didn't ask him for his facey) and I asked him if he knew Cornelius and he did, so there I was talking about Cornelius for five minutes with him and another guy. Didn't think that would ever happen.

Didn't know what to say when it was my turn aside from "great show" etc so I asked him if he was an Outkast fan. He didn't understand me until the third time I said it but then he replied "I was, yeah, they haven't done anything in a while though" and I felt like a right tool. So I said "awesome show, thanks for your patience" and walked back to my car.

Really really wish I wasn't here on my own but my mates are all fucking idiots unfortunately.

Now this bit. I was standing by myself, and I posted this message. Then a chick saddled up next to me. Pretty hot. Black hair. I looked around and there was a big old fat guy dancing on his own to the warm-up DJ (who was awesome!!) and I said to the chick, "look at this guy!" and she laughed. And then I said something else and we ended up hitting it off. Talked as we waited. She was an awesome chick. Great taste. She's going to Wu Tang Saturday night, but not Big Boi in September. "It was one or the other." She offered to buy me a beer, which I declined as I was driving, then said "do you want anything?" And I said a water would be great, forgetting that she'd have to pay for it. But we got along "like a house on fire" as we say here. Then once the gig ended, about ten past eleven, I asked her if she was staying for the signings, and she said no, she had to work. Then she gave me her number, which was great. Been a while since I've got a chick's number. But I don't know if it was out of courtesy, or whatever... but we did get along real well and it's gotta count for something, right? I'll text her tomorrow for sure. Not getting any hopes up but I'd love to catch up.

Anyway it's 1:30am and I'm starving and tired.
