I don't think anybody is suggesting that the super-deluxe be Blu-ray only, but it seems a bit bizarre to have the most expensive option in the inferior medium only. Maybe they could have bundled both, especially considering the negligible cost of the physical disc in comparison to what they will charge.

I can't see why anybody would think it was "inevitable" they would cut Breathe from the main disc - if it is good enough to open the actual show then it is good enough to open the recording. The fact they are putting it on the bonus disc just confuses me - the way I see it there are just three reasons they would do this:

1. To extract additional cash from fans who are up-sold to the double-disc set.
2. An artistic choice (though, as above, it seems absurd they would do such a thing)
3. The recording of Breathe is not up to the standard of the rest of the material and therefore they are including it on the bonus disc for completeness sake.

I will probably buy the Blu-ray edition, but I'll need to see what is on that vinyl first (and the price!)

DVD sales started dropping BEFORE Blu-Rays were even introduced, and most attribute that to the emergence of downloading and video on demand. What makes Blu-Ray immune to this same phenomenon? Bandwidth is not a significant issue at this point.

You're right, though... Blu-Ray will not be totally "obsolete" in two years. But it WILL start experiencing a slow and painful death, just like CDs are now in the music business.

And make no mistake, I'm not happy about this. I love having a physical product and I am genuinely sad that iTunes and illegal downloads are crushing the CD market. But it seems inevitable at this point that the trend will continue, and the home video market is next...

What makes it immune (temporarily) is the impracticality of BD burning. Give it a few years and BD will decline as DVD has, and for the same reasons. How the market will receive streamed content and/or replacing BD/DVD medai with HD storage remains to be seen though...for example I love my WDTV and use it much more than my DVD or BD player, but I know many people won't want to bother with that. When viewing streamed contend becomes as easy as sticking a disc in a player then you'll see a big shift.

I just made this screencap from the preview... I think I see you ;)

oh my gosh, i did not see that in the youtube recorded broadcast... thank you for screencappin that :) i watched the trailer and saw myself..

I was one of the first to comment, i was bitching about the lack of a super deluxe blu-ray edition box set.

Other people were complaining about Breathe.

I thought I had read that all the deluxe/bonus stuff was on the BD (I assume 1 BD because it would fit on one?)

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before but I think the reason Breathe is being cut from the show is (if you can remember) Bono flubbed the cockatoo lyric. He said something like "I'd never buy a ten-inch cockatoo." - or something that sounded strange like that. I remember laughing and wondering how they would fix it. Since U2 don't really overdub their live shows they've released, I suspect they just decided to excise the track, rather than try to alter the mix.

That's my guess anyway...cheers

^ Ok, but Bono is constantly flubbing lyrics and it's even on official releases, so I don't see why one single wrong line should keep a whole song from being put on the DVD. Most people who are not die-hard fans and have not been to a show and don't know all of the songs word by word probably won't even notice. Bono has always been "creative" with lyrics. That doesn't seem to be a really good reason for the exclusion of Breathe.

 The DVD won't include the opener? Epic fail

This is likely going to go down as the first U2 DVD I won't buy. Not that it matters...

btw the Breathe that goes on the bonus...anyone else think that it won't be the Breathe from that night but from another night? Or is there any info on that?

The info that was on the sight before listed it as Breath Live from The Rose Bowl. I guess all the info has been taken down though ever since someone said a mod at u2.com reported that they are trying to add Breathe back into the show. No one knows what's going I guess. It's all very nutty. :D

I wonder if maybe Breathe never was missing from the actual dvd, but only missing from the packaging description, just an error in the packaging, and when they said add it back, they meant fixing all the packaging etc. (?)

I know its hard to say, but they started of the trailer with GOYB, so it would make sense the opening track opening the trailer. Then again it could be an April Fools, but i very doubt they would take it this far, if so, then the entire u2 community's have just been officially owned by the band itself.

Personally though, i dont think there was need for all this fuss and assumptions, before everyone started bitching, use should of waited for what the band say on leaving Breathe out. But to say the band have lost it, and " i wont be buying this DVD because of Breathe ect" is just stupid, simply just wait and see what happens.

The Milan show was originally intended to be its own DVD release, but I think Bono flubbed enough lyrics/vocals etc that they decided the only suitable release would be as an add-on to the U218 disc...

Sorry, but this isn't 1983, this isn't a promo video and U2 didn't screw up Breathe as bad as they did Out of Control at Red Rocks (and even that COULD have been left in). Check it out: the show opened with Breathe, the DVD of the show should open with Breathe. It's not stupid to say I won't buy the DVD, it's just a fan saying enough is enough and I'm not going to plunk down cash for a DVD that isn't a true representation of the tour I saw. And the opening sequence which also happens to include one of the best songs on the album the tour is promoting..well, that is a huge part imo. Maybe the "Breathe Issue" will be fixed, and then sure, I'll be happy to buy it. On the slim chance that they might actually be listening to ticket-holding fans, I don't think stating that is a rush to judgement in the least bit.

I was at Foxboro 2 as well. Magnificent as the opener was a surprise for sure. Was hoping they'd play Breathe later in the set but they didn't. Oh well, saw it at Foxboro 1 and NJ 1 and 2.

For Boston 2 they soundchecked with Kingdom playing and then played Magnificent afterwards. I didn't put it together until after the show. :reject:
