One of my favorite Christmas songs is the Emerson Lake and Palmer version of the song.. it will be awesome to hear the full version of this one!

XMAS songs are generally g@y

I don't think you're a 10 year old playground bully from the 80's, so I'm assuming you mean Christmas songs are generally happy...

And you're right, this one is rather melancholy, but I love it.

For those of you who haven't heard the original, here are the lyrics:

They said therell be snow at christmas
They said therell be peace on earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the virgins birth
I remember one christmas morning
A winters light and a distant choir
And the peal of a bell and that christmas tree smell
And their eyes full of tinsel and fire

They sold me a dream of christmas
They sold me a silent night
And they told me a fairy story
till I believed in the israelite
And I believed in father christmas
And I looked at the sky with excited eyes
till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise

I wish you a hopeful christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear
They said therell be snow at christmas
They said therell be peace on earth
Hallelujah noel be it heaven or hell
The christmas you get you deserve

But I guess some people need to complain about something.

:grumpy: I enjoyed HTDAAB. There are others who fall into this category far more easily.

It's 21 seconds of music, and it didn't blow me away on first listen. Fuck U2. Bono clearly can't hit the high C anymore. I quit.

Doing a XMAS cover is lame for a band that wants to make 2009 their year. How about supporting the (RED) campaign with NEW MATERIAL. STOP BEING TIGHTWADS!

Omfgggggggggggggg!!!! Bono sounds un fucking believable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm fucking speechless...this sounds so fucking awesome i don't even know what to say!!! Thank you!! I love this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bono's in the stratosphere right from the get-go on this one!!! Hope the whole song keeps that energy up.

Strained? When one strains, they sound weak and aren't quite reaching the note. I know it was a short clip, but I'm with everyone else here - he sounded great. He hit the notes with a lot of power - not straining.

But I guess some people need to complain about something.

Actually the high notes sound quite effortless here. These are the same high notes - B - as the studio version of pride, believe it or not. And if anything in pride he actually sounds more strained.

Yeah, but Stand Up (And Stop The Poverty) would have been REALLY new. Well, sort of. In a "we've had this shoved down our throats for a decade" kind of way.

unfortunately, those that would whinge about a xmas song would whinge about a protest song, and would whinge about a new song because "THIS ISN'T A DEPARTURE!!! I GOTTA HAVE MORE COWBELL!"

Oh, wait, that was a new song? Sorry, I thought I was listening to a mash-up of COBL and SYCMIOYO. One with extra dreadful vocals.

Calm down. Don't blow your exclamation mark quota.

I stand corrected. It's a cover after all.

I don't know the song. I'm not much into christmas songs usually, but I think it's fitting they recorded that song. Can't wait to hear the full song.

Guitar and vocals are promising.

Are the latest pictures from this video shoot?

One of the reasons I'm so excited about this album is to see the reactions when they find out that it won't change rock music forever, and the only "innovative" parts are tacked onto the beginning of each song.

Believe me, I've heard this "we're shaking things up" spiel from countless artists, and it rarely proves to be accurate. Hope I'm wrong on this one.

hahaha...yeah, looking back, it was an over reaction....I THINK...but this was just too exciting when I first heard it....I'm still very excited by it, but yeah...deep breaths...

Well, I felt pretty excited too finally seeing a new video appear. (You can borrow some of my exclamation points if you use up your quota Rob, I don't mind  )

the vocal sounds great, but I'm not so found of the extremely big and floating guitarsound edge has been using the last years (even bigger than in the 80s, and softer). Lanois said something in an interview that he wanted to move away from that (or maybe I got him wrong). I'm hoping for something new, something less soft, something more naked and direct in february.
