I predict that I will enjoy it more than SOI

I will agree with this statement.

But just like the past 15 years, it will get almost zero airplay on regular radio, barely crack any chart, and largely go unnoticed other than us and some soccer moms.

I don't expect anything earth shattering...perhaps some songs like Beautiful Day and some that sound like Song for Someone and perhaps another reboot of GOYB.

I will enjoy it though...perhaps I am just pessimistic today.

Just getting lost in the music ;)

I remember that pic Adam posted from his studio of Bono and the guy at the computer. That was March 4th already! This year is flying by.

The kids will not like it. It's unfortunate that Tedder seems to be as delusional as the band are about what "the kids" listen to. U2 will never broadly appeal to the youth again, but if they make interesting music that doesn't pander they have a shot at young people who are actually into music. But if they continue to pander with bland music they'll continue to alienate the fans they have and fail to attract new ones. They need to abandon their obsession with commercialism and try to get the most out of their diminished artistic capabilities.

Tedder mentioned production was "very, very accessible sounding... But it’s not pop."

let's discuss what that might mean... :crack:

I interpret that as "Beautiful Day" like stuff.

Current pop music is Drake, Meghan Trainor, and Justin Bieber. So, it's not like these "artists".

It will sound like U2 - Beautiful Day, City of Blinding Lights, Elevation & Vertigo etc

I hope i am wrong, but long gone are the days of Zooropa, Discoteche, & Acrobat...less accessible but down right beautiful.

Discotheque is an odd choice to go with since it was pretty accessible and many agreed that Crystal Ballroom had a Discotheque vibe.

Discoteche, IMO, was such a huge departure for them complete with a funny video.

Most U2 fans that loved them in the 80s, may not have liked AB and Zooropa but said "Hey, we'll give them 1 more shot"..and Discoteche was the straw that broke their back.

but if you forget it's U2, it's a fantastic song.

As far as Crystal Ballroom, that should have been on the album. it's a killer tune. I liken Crystal Ballroom as more of a Talking Heads kind of thing; not so much like Discoteche...but that's just me.

It means it will sound like the "accessible" songs on SOI, and then months after SOE is released, Bono will muse that they overworked the songs too much.

Lather.
Rinse.
Repeat.

At first we will all say it's their best album since Achtung Baby. 1 year later it will settle in middle of everybody's discography rankings.

Agree with this.

They just can't stop tinkering and hoping for that youth market.

Pop was one of the least "accessible" U2 albums.

Anyways. Is anyone else getting the impression that Adam changed the U2 Instagram password?

Mine is sitting on a shelf within my reach, maybe some of you are storing it in the wrong place
