Hi ... I am certainly not an expert on U2, I 1st saw them on the Elevation tour here in Philly, and saw them twice on this Veritgo tour(one in Philly and one at MSG) . I haven't stopped listening to them in the past year and I am more and more curious & interested...... I want to know it all !! :)

I have a few questions for you U2 experts..

1 )on the Slane DVD, which I love !!!... who is the girl dancing with Bono during Mysterious ways?? It seemed like he knew her.

2) Bono?? I know his name is Paul Hewson, where did Bono come from?

3)The Edge..he is just adorable !! I had the pleasure of being in the ellipse and standing right in front of him...simply amazing.. my question, where did he get the name "the Edge" ?

Thanks,

deirdre

1) It's his daughter Eve.

2) 'Paul was originally nicknamed "Bono Vox" by his friend, Guggi, a high school cohort who stole it from a hearing aid store on O'Connell Street in Dublin. Fittingly enough, the original moniker meant "good voice" in cockeyed Latin. Paul later shortened it to Bono, which remains his name to this day.'

3) 'People continue to speculate how Evans received his nickname "The Edge". While his bandmate Bono has joked that he got the name because of his sharp mind, most U2's biographers attribute the nickname to the sharp profile of his face and nose.'

Thanks.. I had a feeling it was his daughter just by the way he was hugging her...too cute !!

Both my parents were born and raised in Ireland, so I am familiar with parts of the country, Dublin in particular as that is where my mom was born and raised

I have so many other questions, but they will have to wait for another day

The Slane DVD is great and very funny at times. I want to know how the guy, standing 6-feet below , got a full bucket of water that close to the stage and all over Bono without security doing anything. Ha Ha!!

Anyway, I have a serious question. At the end of "Angel of Harlem" , Bono says "Angel of Dorsett St." What is he talking about?

There are a couple of things going on during Angel of Harlem. First, Larry forgets to start drumming, and Bono has to turn around and prompt him "One, Two". Then at the end of the song, Larry doesn't stop when he's meant to, and Bono turns around and air drums at him.
I think the comment "Angel of Dorcett St." is meant to refer to Larry. I think he lived on Dorcett St. or something. I dunno.

Thank you DreamOutLoud13 - I'll enjoy this DVD even more now!!

Yeah, I always wondered, too, where somebody in the audience would get such an amount of water from.

Well, 'forgets'.... Larry always has had problems with Angel of Harlem, he doesn't forget to begin, he just times incorrectly.

I find it's amusing that they had been playing Angel of Harlem for 13 years, and Larry still needed help.

I think there's a fan who specialises in that kind of thing.

Bono got a showering between running to stand still and streets on the Zoo TV sydney video as well.

funnniest part of the show, right?

Just noticing something on my Slane DVD, I have no "Mysterious Ways" on it. I was going to look to see Eve. Are there different DVD releases for different countries or is this another DVD???

It's not included in the main concert - it's a special feature, goto the main menu and it's on there

Ooh I actually just bought Slane this weekend and was thinking, something is wrong - I don't have Mysterious Ways...ok will go home and check out the main menu...although when I put it in, the concert started right up with no menu - just like Chicago.

My DVD player does that too - starting the movie when I put a DVD in, skipping the main menu.

However, if you press the main menu button on your remote control, it will show you the menu.

I'm not actually sure what the thinking was behind omitting Mysterious Ways from the concert in the first place,

Space on the disc is clearly not a problem, and as a special feature, there's nothing particularly special about it.

That's been discussed at length, the most widely accepted explanation is that Mysterious Ways didn't fit into the concert, musically.

It is rather funny on the Slane DVd... but I don't get why someone would do that :eyebrow: ...I love his response

" all I want is fuckin you man"... classic !!

That was as classic as it gets!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I think the bucket of water was over the top :giggle:.

Im 99% sure that mysterious ways was played the previous saturday (there were 2 slane concerts that year) and it was just thrown in as an extra. I was at both so i should be 100% but the memory's not what it used to be...........

Buckwheat- What I would have given to have been in your shoes!! BTW, Nice username. That was my favorite Eddie Murphy character!

Let's just hope that it was water in that bucket!

Slightly Off topic (sorry, deirdre) but what's the Chicago Vertigo DVD like? Is it better than Slane?

Slane is the best of the DVD's released in my opinon. A little light on ATYCLB material, but for some that will be benficial. Mysterious Ways from there is my most played U2 song. Chcago DVD, but there is a lackluster crowd and a couple of musical faux pas.
Good version of Vertigo I thought however.

Agree with thelaj, Chicago was the more intense show of the two, but Slane was more relaxed and fun.

Chicago has A really diverse setlist and lots of HTDAAB songs if you like the CD. I think it gets criticized too much, and is actually a really great buy. It was very fun to watch. My favorite DVD probably, tied with Boston because of the awesome Bad/40/Streets

I love during NY'sD someone TP's bono in the head and he just starts laughing.

:bono: "IIIiiiii-hahahi-hi-hiiiii, will be with youuuu again"
then he mouths "you fucked me up" with a big grin towards the person. Great DVD

Love the Bad/40/Streets segment!(too)

Will check out NYD again!!

Slane vs. Chicago:

The concert
The Slane concert was special. Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry seemed to really have a good time, and the performance was excellent. Now, the Chicago concert is decent too, but it hasn't got that special feeling. Seems more like a routine show.

The DVD
While the editing of the Slane DVD is almost 'too much', the Chicago DVD editing is waaay past the watchable-limit. Every 5 seconds (or even less) the camera position changes. And sometimes it's shaky too.
Plus the visual quality of the Chicago DVD isn't DVD-worthy. With an average bitrate of 4.1 Mbps (DVD is capable of 9.8 Mbps -> that's more than 2 times the Chicago DVD bitrate!) it's often unsharp and MPEG artifacts ("blocks") are visible even for the non-videophilic eye.

"Unprofessional", that's what review site areadvd.de said about the quality of this DVD.

I wouldn't say it's better...but a lot of fun to watch, especially if you saw the Verigo tour..it's a must have...

Slane just has so much more emotion, it seems more real, and there are some songs on there I just love.
Stuck in a Moment, All I want is You, Out of Control, just to mention a few.. Kite is beautiful !!
