Do you guys rank your songs in iTunes with stars? I do.

So I got this bright idea. Why don't I average out the amount of stars I gave to all of the songs on the albums and see how they all stack up. So basically what you get is a ranking based on the quality of the songs and not just whether or not you like it better than another album. Basically it's a more scientific way of ranking the albums. I really enjoyed doing this and was surprised by some of the results.

So by the numbers (and IMO of course) here are the albums ranked by quality of songs.

 1. Achtung Baby - 4.67
 2. The Joshua Tree - 4.55
 3. Zooropa - 4.3 (this was a surprise)
 4. How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - 4.27 (another surprise)
 5. The Unforgettable Fire - 4.2
 6. POP - 4.08
 7. Boy - 3.9
 8. October - 3.82
 9. War - 3.8
 10. All That You Can't Leave Behind - 3.55
 11. Rattle and Hum - 3.4
I do the same thing, except I do it in Notepad, the most primitive program ever. Last time I checked, I'm pretty sure either ATYCLB or Achtung came out on top.

Tomorrow I'll give you all my official album ratings out of 10. I might actually surprise myself.

Oh, and COBL_04, I'm curious, what did you give Zooropa?

this shit is whack.

1. war: 3.7 stars
2. boy: 3.54 stars
3. pop: 3.42 stars
4. zooropa: 3.4 stars
5. the unforgettable fire: 3.6 stars
6. the joshua tree: 3.36 stars
7. october: 3.27 stars
8. achtung baby: 3.25 stars
9. passengers: 2.85 stars
10. rattle and hum: 2.82 stars
11. htdaab: 2.5 stars
12. atyclb: 1 star

Alright, I've done it, and here's what I finished with!

 1. The Joshua Tree/How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb (4.05)
 2. Achtung, Baby! (4.04)
 3. All That You Can't Leave Behind (3.96)
 4. War (3.75)
 5. Boy (3.68)
I was surprised to see HTDAAB tied for first and Boy last. Very surprised. I tried to be as honest with myself as I could.

I hate using five stars as I find that terribly restrictive. I like using a system of 10. With five stars, there are songs that are 9/10 but not good enough to be counted with the 10/10 five star songs but too good to go with the 8/10 four star songs. But ah well, I've rated them anyway.

(* = recurring decimal)
1. The Unforgettable Fire (5.0)
2. The Joshua Tree (4.818181*)
3. Rattle And Hum, Studio Only (4.4444*)
4. War (4.3)
4. Zooropa (4.3)
6. Passengers (4.285714 - which recurs)
7. Boy (4.272727*)
8. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (4.181818*) [If Fast Cars is included, 4.25]
9. October (4.0)
10. Pop (3.916666*)
11. Achtung Baby (3.416666*)
12. All That You Can't Leave Behind (3.272727*) [If TGBHF is included, it is equal with Achtung.]

The big surprise is how high RAH is. If I included the live stuff, it'd most likely be in the bottom four. I'm also surprised War beat Boy and Zooropa beat Passengers.

I never used the rating feature on iTunes, so this was a fun project to finally get started on that :nerd:
 1. The Unforgettable Fire - 4.44
 2. Achtung Baby - 4.25
 3. Zooropa - 4.10
 4. Pop - 4.08
 5. War - 3.70
 6. The Joshua Tree - 3.64
 7. October - 3.27
 8. HTDAAB - 3.25
 9. Boy - 2.82
 10. Rattle and Hum - 2.59
 11. ATYCLB - 2.54
Then why didn't it rate 5.0 overall for you like it did for me?

Then you clearly don't think it's flawless, liar!

Here they are out of ten. These scores were made from rating all the songs on a given album and averaging out the scores. They in no way are effected by how the album comes together as a whole, but merely the songs seperately.
