Oh hai guys, we now arrive in the mysterious capital city of North Korea, Pyongyang. Home to the Dear Leader himself, Kim Jong-Il, a man who we could not believe is actually shorter than Bono (pfft, yeah right).

Pyongyang is dominated by the Juche-tastic Ryungyong Hotel ... that, after 20+ years hasn't even been finished.

Some say that Eternal Leader Kim Il Sung roams the concrete corridors. Others say that nuclear missiles will be hidden in the revolving restaurant on the top floor just in case the puppet South threaten the freedom of the brave workers of the North. Some just don't want to know.

Yep, they were the opener when we saw them at the Curtin. Doesn't surprise me too much - they got one of their songs on some compilation that has a truckload of Triple J approved artists.

From what I've seen it looks like it's based on Soviet-style subways, unsurprisingly.

For all the flaws in the USSR they really won in the subway department, much much better looking than those in the US.

I don't subscribe to that viewpoint, but no Westerner has ever seen beyond those four stations (two that are used for tours, and two that used to be). There is widespread belief that the remainder of the system may be inoperative, only operational at peak times, or operational but embarrassingly rundown. It's a big mystery amongst the railfans who know, and all we have is circumstantial evidence.

What we DO know is that some of the trains were bought off East Berlin back in the day and still have communist-era graffiti!

And yes, I'll agree that for their feature stations, the Soviets really created works of art long after the US and UK stopped trying. Or, for that matter, Australia. Nothing notable at all about the three underground stations in Melbourne, except that Parliament station had the Southern Hemisphere's longest escalator at the time of opening. Woop-dee-doo. Flagstaff station has the appearance of dinginess despite being anything but. Fail!

Oh hell yes, New Zealand finally gets another gold at the Commonwealth Games by winning the rugby sevens, beating Australia in the final!

So we've won the rugby sevens all four times it has been contested at the Commonwealth Games, not losing a single game in that entire time. That's a nice record.
