Campbell heir tops Irish rich list again
Business & Finance 28 Apr 2003

The heir to the Campbell's food empire has been named Ireland's richest man, with personal wealth of E2.38bn.
John Dorrance, who became an Irish citizen in 1995, tops the Sunday Times Rich List for the seventh year in a row.

The 2003 Rich List also reveals that that the combined wealth of Ireland's richest 100 people is E22.4bn, up from E21.28bn a year ago.

In second place in the Irish rich list with a combined wealth of E1.74bn is Tony O'Reilly, 27pc owner of Independent News & Media, as well as holdings in Heinz and Eircom, and his wife, Greek shipping heiress Chryss Goulandris.

Coming in third in the list is Tony Ryan, founder of Ryanair, with E1.05bn, with financier Dermot Desmond in fourth with E1bn and Sean Quinn in fifth place with E731m. Quinn and his family own and run the Quinn Group, which has interests in building materials, hotels, insurance and glass production.

Making up the rest of the top 10 are Bono, with E634m, Edward Haughey, owner of Newry pharmaceutical firm Norbrook, E454m, Glen Dimplex founder Martin Naughton, E447m, Michael Smurfit and family, E464m, and Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary, E427m.

Looks like they're equating all of U2 with just Bono...that figure is for the band as a whole, other wealth lists have the whole band at that number, split roughly four ways...

Adding: It is for the band as a whole, the Mirror lists U2 at the spot and figure.

Split it 5 ways, their manager is their 5th member... They keep trying to lay it all on Bono and make him look richer than he really is.....

Actually, they redid that several years back. McGuinness gets a standard manager's fee now (which isn't too much less than a fifth anyway) but it's not a five way split anymore. In return, the band lifted their exclusivity with McGuinness so he's free to manage others, like he does with PJ Harvey.

Thanks for explaining that split -- I would have gone on thinking the old split was still correct.. Well, 1/4th looks even better.....good for those guys, I'm glad for them......
