The Fly
A few of you were interested in hearing my story when I danced with Bono during the Elevation Sacramento concert 3 years ago. (After the Ipod launch, I was able to get Bono to sign the pic of he and I dancing ...he wrote "Thanks for the dance" ) Below is what I wrote a few days after having one of the most incredible experiences of my life....
Sorry if you've read this more than once as I'm
posting to various lists. It's a bit long but I wanted
to share my experience with you. Sacramento was my 9th
and final show of the tour...and boy, was it
amazing!!! I still can't believe I got up on stage and
danced with Bono....someone has to pinch me
Let's see...where do I begin???
After driving all night from the LA3 show to Arco
Arena, I was completely exhausted. But hey, I had to
snap out of it because I was about to see the greatest
band perform! After watching the Boston DVD in the GA
line and meeting some great people (love U2 fans), my adrenaline had kicked in. I made my new sign that said, "Traveled to (listed the shows) just to dance w/you" because I was hoping
(don't we all?) that maybe he'd picked me.
6PM rolls around and they finally let us in. I went to
my favorite spot, outside the heart at the tip. The
security guard told me I was in the wrong place...that
I needed to go over there (he pointed to entrance of
the heart). I told him, nope...this is where I want to
be, at the outside tip
I thought the band would be tired after already
playing 2 shows in a row, but they came out and rocked Arco!
WOW! Fast forward a little....They finished Kite and I
knew Bono and Edge would be coming out to play their
acoustic set at the tip of the heart. Bono started
heading down the ramp towards the tip and they went
into Angel of Harlem. I held onto my sign and pointed
at it and Bono gave me a glance, read part of my sign,
and turned towards Edge to sing in the mic. Then a
couple of seconds later he turned towards me and read
the rest of my sign and turned back towards Edge. Bono
turns around for the 3rd time, looks at me, and
motions for me to come up on stage. Oh my god.
I immediately jumped onto the platform with a little
help from my husband, and then stepped onto the tip
and into Bono's arms. After this, my memory is a
little fuzzy because it all seemed like a dream. He
was singing to me, our eyes locked into each other’s
and I was singing the words too. I guess you can say
my hands wandered a little, and they ended up on his
butt (This little antic is soooo out of character...believe me...i'm really not like that. i think i got wrapped up in the moment (and in his arms), and i kinda went a little Bono crazy!) I think he was a bit surprised...he had this
smile on his face, brought my hands back up to his
shoulder, smiled and then he placed them back on his butt .
He asked me if I knew the words to the rest of the
song and to sing into the mic. (Let me just say that
the only singing I do is in the shower or in the car,
not in front of 17,00 people. And not to mention I
lost my voice from the previous concerts) Oh well, he
puts the mic in front of me and we both start singing
"Angel....Angel of Harlem" a few times until it ends.
I then gave him the biggest hug and told him "thank
you for everything" and he gave me a kiss and led me
back to the tip and to where I was standing.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
THanks for listening to my story that happened it seems so long ago, yet it still is so fresh in my mind...god that man smells good even halfway through a concert
Here are some pics...
