ONE love, blood, life
Film Rolling on Ian Curtis Biopic
Ed. Note: Last spring 2FM DJ Dave Fanning announced that U2 would be contributing to "Control's" soundtrack. Read Interference.com's News story here.
Shooting began on Control, the long awaited film about Joy Division's Ian Curtis, July 10. The biopic is being directed by Anton Corbijn, who has previously worked on U2 and Depeche Mode DVDs and who photographed Joy Division upon moving to the UK in 1979. Control was co-written by Curtis' widow Deborah and is an expansion of her book about her personal relationship with the Joy Division frontman. The film will explore Curtis' relationship with the women in his life, his epilepsy and the rise of Joy Division, leading up to his 1980 suicide.
In addition to songs by Joy Division (and their earlier incarnation, Warsaw), the soundtrack for Control will feature Roxy Music, Lou Reed, the Buzzcocks, Iggy Pop and, of course, New Order.
Ian Curtis' tragic end was last seen on the big screen in Michael Winterbottom's 2002 film 24 Hour Party People, about Tony Wilson and Factory Records, in which Sean Harris played the late singer. In Control, Sam Riley of 10,000 Things will be playing Curtis. A release date has yet to be set for the film.
