Those eyes
The laughter all gone, not to return
Bitter gray runs down her face
And his, cracked and weathered...
like a storm cloud ripped apart by the wind

Coyote wild howl
Brings them to the ground
The spirit of their love rising into the cold night
Then like leaden reminders-
crashes down on their heads

She goes about her duties
Thinking of the only joy she had ever known
It was gone now
Torn from her by the steel hands of an idea
One that works in theory
But will never in reality

He watches her
The joy as gone in him as in her
Long had Hope flown from it's box
He raises his soulless eyes to the sky
And one by one
The stars wink out
And the sparkle slowed.

wow..

very very moving, Foadie. I love the start of the poem, plus the "coyote wild howl" how it's phrase and the sound of those words together. the last stanza is beautiful, sad and chilling. ((Foadie))
