your hand pulled me into the water
drowning all fear
as crushing waves numbed me
the ice melts in the summer's sun
a silver pool running away
I dared you to catch it
and you said you would
and you did
for me
you held the whole ocean in your hands
a floodgate for tomorrow
little toes digging in the dirt
nervously
you were a hand on my shoulder
you held me together
you dropped the ocean
swollen in hang-time
frozen, contorted shapes before settling back
but only when I was ready
your wings stretched the sky
far to big to ever fly
always there
you wait in the wings
you wait on the wings
you are my wings
