Looks like the Line 6 M13 is a far better bet for U2 guitar tones then the Pod. Sure Edge uses a Pod but sparingly.

  • The M13 has the distortion models that Edge used heavily on HTDAAB.
  • The M13 does have the TubeScreamer model of overdrive that Edge has used for 75% of his basic overdrive tones.
  • It has the Octo Reverb setting, available on the Verbzilla (single pedal). Octo setting will give one that sythetic string shimmer that Edge uses.
  • The key complaint (in the past) about all Line6 delay products and delays on Pods has been they the mod delay was not as U2-friendly as can be. Thanks to Line6 keeping an open mind and open ear, and for enlisting one of the folks from U2 Recording group... they have vastly improved the delays sounds.
  • The M13 has the Envelope filter built in. One of the models is that of the Electrix Filter Factory - which Edge used for "Elevation".

Is the M13 "Edge in a box"? No, that would be the (far more expensive) Fractal Audio Axe-FX.

But for $500.00 one will get a great amount of distortion, modulation, delays, reverbs and filter models that are very useful for U2 sounds.
