Dont know why exactly but I have always thought of it in line with drinking too much which I was at the time of its release.

I don't think that 'alcoholism' is the storyline of the song.
But that is the beauty of music. A song can mean different things to each listener and those meanings can have little to nothing to do with what the writer meant at the time of writing the lyric.
