2001 was the year i got into u2 pretty big,ive just been going through some old videos from this era.

I live in england and i was still at school in these years. U2 were so big and shall we say it cool in these years. Loads of kids at school were into them. Bono was up there alongside all of the big popstars. When your thought of the massive relevent acts in those years u2 were amongst them.

Turning up and winning every award going, being on tv shows, getting played on mtv and radio one all the time and all over the nme.

I loved this era, heres some videos ive been watching

Love this era

With or without you boston elevation tour amazing again(emotion) i remember my mom buying me this dvd and being mega jealous of the girl bono pulls out the crowd. My mom was listening to u2 while i was stuck in her stomach ;-) maybe i was really around for the 85 era but cant remember it :)

How could i forget the superbowl i remember recording it overnight then getting up early for school to watch it. I flicked through to half time and loved it! Emotion again!

I would love to see the new album take off everywhere like atyclb did. It really was a brand new begining for u2 again. They got loads of new fans (including me). obviously its different times now, their older and disliked in some media outlets (mainly bono). It would be their greatest achievement if they could do it

No question a huge era for U2. I was in college, and they picked up a heluva lot of new young fans. I'd been a fan since the mid-nineties when they were popular, but ATYCLB/Elevation tour just propelled them to an entirely new level. Liking U2 was cool! Liking Bono was cool! How things have changed

I remember my friend at school copying atyclb onto a cassette tape for me. I listened to it all the time

Then i brought the cd and ground beneath her feet wasnt on it( i didnt know the ins and outs then) so i just carried on listening to the cassette :)

This other lad who use to sit next to me in science was into u2 alot more then i was at the time. I remember going to science one day and this chap said to me "i went to see u2 last night on the elevation tour at the nec in birmingham" i couldnt believe it, it was a sell out but his dad had phoned up for any returns and he got some.

My biggest mistake as a u2 fan was not going to the elevation tour, i know i was only a 15 year old kid at the time so couldnt do to much about it but im gutted even now that i missed that tour!

I remember when they showed the Boston concert on NBC. I became a casual fan, and remained one until U2360° came around. That was when I ventured into their catalog.

The ATYCLB/Elevation Tour era was quite something for U2.

It was a good time to be a u2 fan. The Elevation shows were pretty special despite some of the things that were going on in the world at that time. Our group of friends made it to 4 shows, all pretty great, but the Dallas show in Nov 2001 was extra special.

Their SB performance in early 2002 is still the best ever and probably wont ever be topped because of sheer emotion that went into it.

What Boston concert on NBC? Are you talking about 2 songs during halftime of one of the 2001 NBA Finals games?

I liked the VH1 footage so much that I went and bought the DVD. It was the first U2 purchase I had ever made. Absolutely loved the concert although I was kind of shocked that "Pride" and "One" turned out to not be on the DVD (although they actually were in the setlists for those nights, I'd later find out).

I went on to grab a makeshift career overview by asking for The Best Of 1980/1990, Achtung Baby and All That You Can't Leave Behind for Xmas. From there, I was absolutely hooked.

I remember my parents buying me that boston dvd and i watched it over and over again. I loved the documentary on it with hamish hamilton aswell.

When ever anyone came round our house id put the dvd on just to show them how cool u2 were :)

I watched that DVD when I was six with my dad and I've been a huge fan ever since. When I was a kid I would reenact Bono's moves and sing all the songs. It's still my favorite U2 concert DVD.

This was the era I really got into U2 as well. I'll never forget the feeling I had watching them perform at the Brit awards for the lifetime achievment they received. As you've said, they just snowballed and won everything going, were on every major music show and the Boston DVD and slane castle too. Nice thread, takes me back to some good times trying to play U2 songs with a delay pedal and not much else!

Snap.

That was all Bono aswell i thought. It wasnt evenu2's music that got me intrested it was all about Bono's performance at the brits.

He sold u2 to me and i brought in!
