Anyone heard this CONFIRMED - U2 to open Grammys?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Who wants to make a bet that Thom Yorke will throw a hissy fit about Corporate America at the Grammy's? I don't see it at all being out of the scope of posibility....hes only about 1000 times more socialist then Bono :)

The big bad Grammys are going to scare him away, images of dollar bills will be coming to eat him alive :)

Radiohead are excellent musicians but they have no idea about world politics IMO, but it will be funny if that happens on national and world wide TV :)

I'm surprised that no one thought of this. Yes, we all know that U2 hasn't been nominated for anything, but, "what if" U2 were to be given some sort of Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Grammies. That could be a reason for them to be there.

The only time I really give a shit about the Grammies is when U2 is there. Do I really wanna see Carrie Underwood win another Grammy?

Brush up on your socialism! Bono is not a socialist at all, so 1000 times 0=0.

"I've long since got over the idea of artists good, businessmen bad, I got over that when I was about 19." (Bono, 2008)

Helping people through pushing equality of opportunity is not socialism, dont confuse the 2. Adam Smith, the founding fathers and other capitalists believed the same thing. Sorry to derail the thread.

The Police got the opening nod for reuniting and going on a world tour after 20+ years with no new material. I would say U2 having one of their most widely anticipated albums coming out a few weeks later would qualify them to perform should they want to.

I have no information to add, but I wouldn't doubt the rumor.

U2 @ Grammys???

Don't know if this has been posted already, but I found it on Yahoo's music chart watch...

U2's "Get On Your Boots" is the second highest new entry on Hot Digital Songs. It bows at #21, with sales of 57,000 downloads. The band's upcoming album, No Line On The Horizon, is due March 3. Hits Magazine's always informative website reports that U2 will be the opening act on the Grammy telecast on Feb. 8.

Hope it's true :hyper:

The audience reaction will be wild if it's GOYB....

It's no Walk On. Or Beautiful Day. Or SYCMIOYO Let's just leave it at that.

Though I love the song, it's not really the Grammys type...

but still::up:

Yes, and if you go to the Hits Magazine site the report is on the rumor mill page, so nothing is confirmed they are just repeating a rumor. It could still turn out to be true but it is not confirmation that it really is happening.

Ok, it's still just a RUMOR. But, hey, at least we're getting somewhere. :hyper:

...and U2's 2000 classic "Beautiful Day" re-enters at #194. (Solid!)

I've not seen if this has been confirmed. But if true, sounds like a good reason to watch the Grammy opening, for a change!

Nice! Let the album and tour excitement begin!!

Grammy Performance Next Month

29.01.2009

U2 will play at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles next month.

The 51st annual Grammy Awards take place on February 8th and there's plenty of other great acts lined up including Kid Rock, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Rihanna, Coldplay, Jennifer Hudson, Lil Wayne, Paul McCartney, Radiohead and Jay-Z.

It will air on CBS from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT). More here.

The band have already confirmed they'll be performing the new single ‘Get On Your Boots’ at the UK's BRIT Awards at London's Earls Court, ten days later on Wednesday 18 February. And a few days after that they'll be in Berlin to play at Germany's ECHO Awards

I think the Beautiful Day part is a fantastic sign for NLOTH's album sales. Despite how some people here think that GOYB is failing, if it's getting people amped up enough to buy old material-----that's great news for their enthusiasm in buying the new album.

:tsk:

I think we should refer to that one as "The Song That Should Never be Named" from now on

:shudder:

Agreed. That's one song we don't have to worry about being performed at the Grammys (or hopefully ever hear again!)

Since Sirius and XM merged the stations have turned to crap, I have only come across Boots twice since it was released and I'm really looking forward to the live performance. I'm guessing U2 will pretty much rule at next year's Grammys! We're down to just over a month until the new album. Woo-hoo!
