They're what a friend of mine calls 'just good people.'
The main set totally rocked, just one favorite song after another. The encores, though lengthy, weren't my favorites (sometimes I just can't get into the Woody Guthrie stuff except for California Stars and one or two others) but the band is so great and such a joy to watch and hear that I really didn't care.
My friend said he had never heard a band make such beautiful and melodic noise, in reference to how so many songs fall apart into heavily distorted experimental noises--much more so live than on records. It's chilling and exciting to me. They make me happy.
