The Fly
I don't remember where i read about Bono saying that Original
of the Species was influenced by The Beatles or Lennon, anyone
has an idea?

So true! Pick your favorite song and your favorite inspiration/meaning for it, and next thing you know Bono's changed his mind about the origins, etc., in the next interview he does. Ay de mi!

The one that gets me is RTSS being dedicated to the American Troops. Where does he come up with this stuff??
Roland of Gilead said:OOTS is the closest U2 have come to sounding like the Beatles. This was obvious from day one of the album's release. The last time U2 have come this close to sounding like the Beatles was All I Want is You. These are two amazing songs.

Well it's BTBS now on the 3rd leg! Seems a bit odd to me.

Bono's losing it now. Dedicating an anti-America song to US troops.
Then still, it's not the best choice to dedicate a song that's linked to BTBS to the US troops.Utoo said:
It's not really BTBS, per se, that he's dedicating. It's the "Johnny Comes Marching" portion, as well as the acting part, that he's dedicating.
Johnny comes marching home again,
hoorah, hoorah.
Johnny comes marching home again,
hoorah, hoorah.
No matter what he's done,
no matter what he's seen,
let Johnny come safely home to me.....
The thought that it's really BTBS in itself that's being dedicated has led to a bit of confusion...

Bullet is not an anti-America song, it's an anti American foreign policy song.
In the concerts he is saying that while he disagrees with the US military actions in Iraq, as in El Salvador in the 1980s (the subject of the song lyrics), he fully supports the people who by choice or not by choice, are out there putting their lives on the line in support of their country.
Utoo said:
Exactly. It's an example of the argument for supporting troops, but not the policy or actions. There's a pretty good distinction, IMO, but most of the country doesn't seem to get it.
WalkOn21 said:I'm off now, the movie Hard Day's Night is on tv here (not joking).
WalkOn21 said:but just the I-like-the-music-but-I-don't-know-anything-about-U2 fans could get the impression that Bono actually has no problems with the Iraq war.
VintagePunk said:According to the setlist thread, Bono made a reference to Lennon before the song last night in Hartford (is this what you're referring to?)
