Hey Comrade and VG

Writing a poem for bio, we don't even have to write them for English

Ye but I am interested in seeing it

yeah my bio teacher's a bit insane :coocoo:

here goes...keep in mind it's supposed to be "entertaining" despite the fact that anthrax is not a funny matter :eyebrow:

Baccilus anthracis, or anthrax as it’s called
An encapsulated rod-shaped bacterium that forms spores
It can be cutaneous, through inhalation, or gastrointestinal
And may be a deadly weapon in a biological war

Cutaneous anthrax comes in through the skin
A small sore is the first symptom you should see
Then a blister, then a black-centered ulcer, is there
After contact these symptoms should show within a week

95% of cases come this way
Often through contact with infected products like meat
Which is lucky because less than 1% of cases
Will be fatal if you get the antibiotics you need

Gastrointestinal anthrax is contracted in different ways
Eating raw infected meat is not recommended
Nausea, loss of appetite, and bad stomach pain
Bloody diarrhea…and the list hasn’t ended!

This should also show up in a week
And you should get antibiotics as soon as you know
For 25 to 60% of these cases
Will probably leave you six feet below

Lastly inhalation anthrax we must discuss
Although it’s not a subject that’s light
It affects the lungs, sometimes maliciously
Sent through the mail in a powder so white

One week to six it will take to appear
First flu-like symptoms like fever, cough, and aches
And quickly gets worse with severe breathing issues
Chest discomfort, and pain with each breath you take

The prognosis for this type of anthrax is bleak
Even when all medicines are used that can be
3 of 4 patients who contract such an illness
Will not live to hear the reports on TV

Antibiotics I’ve mentioned, as the best way to treat
Even before infection, if one is thought to be exposed
Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin, Doxycycline, Penicillin
Some combination of these, they’ll be given a dose

After infection there’s a 60-day course of these drugs
And there’s also a vaccine for it that exists
But not for the general public at the moment
Only workers who may come into contact with it

This all sounds frightening, surely it does
After the 2001 mail attack, many are afraid
But keep in mind that most cases are not in our country
And rather in places that seem faraway

Central and Southern America and Asia
Southern and Eastern Europe and the Middle East
Africa and the Caribbean, here you’re far more likely
To come into contact with this horrible disease

:applaud: Good poem VG! I bet you were :banghead: when your teacher announced that homework. I'd have been like, "NOOOOOO! Just let me copy the information from a textbook!"* Still, learning/remembering a poem about anthrax must be easier than learning paragraphs from a textbook

* :shifty: I mean, put the information into my own words  :uhoh:
